Position Overview

The Technical Services Installation Assistant is a foundational technical role responsible for supporting the physical infrastructure and hardware deployment across Weber School District. This position assists in the installation maintenance and optimization of low-voltage cabling systems classroom audiovisual technologies and specialized campus security hardware. Under the direction of senior technical staff the Assistant ensures that district facilities are equipped with reliable network connectivity and modern instructional tools including interactive displays integrated audio systems and high-definition video walls. This role is essential for maintaining a safe connected and technologically advanced learning environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

Assistant Functions:

Low Voltage Wiring & Networking

  • Install terminate label and test Cat 5e Cat 6 and Fiber Optic cabling to district standards.
  • Install terminate label and test network-based IP security cameras and digital recording components.
  • Install low-voltage cable systems to provide updated enhanced or upgraded electrical data capabilities.
  • Maintain and clean network closets.
  • Maintain school maps for technical services functions.

Newline & Interactive Display Installation

  • Assist in the unboxing assembly and physical mounting of Newline interactive panels in classroom and administrative settings.
  • Ensure secure wall mounting or mobile stand integration following safety protocols.
  • Perform basic cable management for power and data inputs to ensure a clean and safe installation.

Video Wall & Specialized Signage Installation

  • Support the precision mounting of multi-panel video wall systems in common areas gyms or boardrooms.
  • Assist in the alignment and calibration of display grids to ensure seamless visual output.
  • Install associated hardware controllers and signal distribution equipment.

Audio Enhancement & Classroom Systems

  • Assist in the installation of Audio Enhancement systems including ceiling speakers microphones and amplifiers.
  • Integrate classroom audio/visual systems with existing network and display infrastructure.
  • Verify system functionality and assist in basic tuning for optimal classroom acoustics.

UPS

  • UPS server management and maintenance
  • Monitoring UPS battery life and function
  • UPS battery replacement

Essential Functions:

  • Emergency Response: Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate technical or safety concerns related to physical infrastructure.
  • Logistics & Transport: Transports various items (e.g. tools equipment supplies ladders) to ensure the availability of materials required at the job site.
  • Documentation: Maintains accurate records of cabling runs port labeling and hardware inventory as directed.

Work Attendance and Reliability:

  • Regular punctual and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Consistent presence is required to meet project deadlines support scheduled installations respond to infrastructure issues and coordinate with technical staff and school-site personnel.

Other Functions:

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with local and state building codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC) as it pertains to low voltage.
  • Safety: Must be able to strictly adhere to safety practices and operate power and hand tools safely (e.g. drills crimpers testers).
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches. Ability to work on ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing work priorities interpret electrical plans/blueprints and meet strict project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Job-related experience in cabling construction or AV installation is preferred.
  • Licensing: Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to travel to various district sites as needed.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Employment Terms

  • Type: Full-time 8 hours per day 12 months per year.
  • Compensation: Aligned with Technical Services salary schedule Lane 2.
  • Benefits: Benefits eligible (health retirement PTO/sick leave).

Physical Requirements

The following physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

Lifting & Carrying

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs to a height of approximately 36 inches.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs including tools technology devices and installation materials.

Mobility & Posture

  • Ability to stand walk bend crouch and reach for extended periods in classrooms hallways and mechanical spaces.
  • Ability to work on ladders lifts and elevated platforms safely and comfortably.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as network closets ceiling areas or behind equipment racks.

Manual Dexterity

  • Sufficient hand-eye coordination to use crimpers testers drills screwdrivers and precision installation tools.
  • Ability to handle small fibers cables connectors and specialized low-voltage components.

Vision & Hearing

  • Adequate near and far vision to read labels blueprints wiring diagrams and digital displays.
  • Adequate hearing to identify audio signals alarms spoken directions and environmental sounds.

Environmental Conditions

The role may involve exposure to:

  • Varying temperatures when working in mechanical or ceiling spaces.
  • Dust insulation or construction debris.
  • Active school environments with students staff and public activity.
  • Occasional outdoor conditions during equipment transport or site transitions.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on task and environment.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams wiring schematics and basic blueprints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues logically and communicate findings.
