Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to deliver and support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training programs that ensure personnel maintain required certifications and competencies in accordance with state and national standards.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar related or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Instructs EMS courses for basic and advanced life support certifications including CPR EMT and AEMT curricula in accordance with national and state standards.
Designs lesson plans and develops course content assessments and skill evaluations to support instructional objectives.
Administers written and practical examinations and maintains accurate student records in compliance with Georgia Office of EMS (OEMS) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and departmental requirements.
Coordinates and delivers continuing education courses to ensure departmental personnel maintain required certifications.
Assists with planning and coordinating EMS training schedules classes and logistics in collaboration with the EMS Training Officer and Fire Training Division.
Maintains comprehensive program documentation including class rosters evaluations incident reports and compliance audit records.
Serves as a mentor and evaluator for students during clinical rotations and field internships.
Ensures training facilities supplies and equipment meet industry standards for realism safety and instructional effectiveness.
Participates in curriculum review and revision efforts to incorporate new protocols regulations and evidence-based practices.
Serves as a liaison with internal divisions the state EMS office external instructors and other stakeholders to promote alignment consistency and quality in EMS instruction.
Maintains current knowledge of EMS protocols regulations and best practices through ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required and three years experience as a Paramedic
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia drivers license; and must possess and maintain current Paramedic licensure with the Georgia Department of Public Health Office of EMS and Trauma; must be certified in CPR/BLS and ACLS; must obtain American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS and BLS Instructor certifications within one year of hire; must obtain the NREMT-Paramedic within six months of hire; and must obtain the State Office of EMS and Trauma Instructor/Coordinator certification within one year of hire into the position.
