The Mathematics Coordinator (.8) and teacher (.2) leads the vision of mathematics programming and instruction ensuring coherence and alignment of curriculum and instructional practices across schools. The Mathematics Coordinator provides leadership in the curricular area by serving as chairperson for the curriculum maintaining knowledge of current research and seeking out the best pedagogical practices relative to mathematics (K - 12). The Mathematics Coordinator leads the development and continued refinement of units in mathematics. The Mathematics Coordinator assesses the effectiveness of the curriculum through the development of common assessments review of standardized assessment data and classroom-based performance data.
The Mathematics Coordinator ensures a guaranteed and viable written taught and tested curriculum in mathematics. This includes:
Curriculum Leadership:
- developing and evaluating curriculum ensuring alignment to state/national standards
- maintaining electronic curriculum folders and documents
- staying informed and knowledgeable of best practices in mathematics instruction and programming
- organizing and leading summer curriculum writing for math
- leading the Districts math committee in conducting a formal review of the mathematics curriculum developing long-range curricular goals and action steps.
- leading the evaluation adoption and implementation of core and supplemental math curricula resources to ensure a viable and assured experience for all students
- recommending budget expenditures for the purpose of addressing curricular equipment and supply needs required to implement the instructional program
- planning and presenting reports to the Board of Education in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
Collaboration:
- collaborating with school leadership teams to ensure effective and consistent implementation/enactment of the curriculum
- collaborating with schools to ensure appropriate differentiation intervention and enrichment for learners in the area of mathematics
- help support the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) work in schools including consulting with professional learning communities (PLCs) helping interpret data determining best practices in instruction
- collaborate with math teachers specialists and interventionists to best meet learner needs
Professional Learning:
- serving as a model in the classroom
- providing professional development/coaching/feedback to K-12 teaching staff that strengthens teachers content knowledge and pedagogical practices
- support new staff as a part of the induction process
Monitoring Effectiveness:
- analyzing district-wide assessment data to determine growth trends and areas of growth
- supporting building and District leaders in facilitating data meetings and responding to data
- supporting the Districts assessment practices of students in mathematics by guiding teachers to collect and analyze data and to develop plans for responding to student needs
- evaluating the effectiveness of instruction within classrooms throughout the District through ongoing classroom observations and walkthroughs with building leaders
Student/ Parent communication
- promoting equitable access to rigorous mathematics learning opportunities
- overseeing the math course recommendation process and math content acceleration requests
- communicating clearly with families and students regarding mathematics pathways and programming
Position: 0.8 FTE Coordinator and .2 FTE Teacher
Experience: This position is open to full-time District staff or an external candidate with three to five years teaching experience in the content area.
FLSA Status: Exempt Professional Exemption-Teacher.
