JOB TITLE:
Upward Bound Summer Program Research Mentor
JOB PURPOSE:
Design and deliver an age-appropriate four-week curriculum that encompasses a range of participant ages and learning styles provided to multiple grade levels. Dates of summer program (including training) are May 26th-July 3rd 2026
This is a temporary position from May 26th-July 3rd 2026. The total pay is $3600 and will be split as follows: May - $554 June - $2769 July - $277
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research mentors and instructors assigned to a research project will meet to discuss academic goals and educational plans at least twice prior to the beginning of the summer program in early June.
- Deliver lectures group work and experiential activities to effectively communicate subject matter to a wide range of learning. Assist participants with computer skills necessary to facilitate their research paper.
- Collaborate with Composition & Literature instructors to assign a reading list to be completed as part of the Composition & Literature class. Readings should be relevant to the general research topic and discussed in both the Research and the Composition & Literature courses.
Actively participate in participants academic success including but not limited to periodically attending other classes mentoring and helping participants prepare their research paper and poster presentation.
-Be available to teach Mon-Thurs afternoons 1:30pm-3:30pm and Friday mornings 8:30am-10:30am and attend study hall Mon. Wed. and Thurs. from 3:30pm-5pm. Also plan and execute field trips related to your mentorship on June 12th and June 19th.
- Attend all weekly academic meetings as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree
- Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAPfor professional travel is required
- Successful criminal background check necessary for working with minors is required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of at least one year of graduate study
Doctoral degree or candidate preferred
