Title: TCHS Head Cheerleading Coach
DUTIES:
- Lead and manage the high school cheerleading program in a manner that promotes the academic athletic and personal growth of student-athletes.
- Plan organize and supervise all aspects of the cheer program including tryouts practices performances competitions and approved camps/clinics.
- Teach and model cheer fundamentals (motions jumps stunts tumbling cheers chants dance) using progressions that are safe and appropriate for age and skill level.
- Develop and enforce team rules academic expectations and behavior standards that align with school and district policies and the student code of conduct.
- Promote and model positive sportsmanship school spirit self-control integrity and respect for all students staff opponents and officials.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director and school administration to ensure all cheerleaders meet eligibility requirements including academic standing physical examinations insurance and required forms/parent consents.
- Maintain a safe environment by teaching proper stunt/tumbling technique using appropriate spotting and progressions supervising student-athletes closely and following all relevant safety guidelines (e.g. NFHS/organization-approved cheer safety standards).
- Coordinate and supervise cheer participation at athletic events pep rallies and other school-approved activities including bus/van travel as required.
- Provide continuous supervision of cheerleaders at practices games events and during travel until all students have safely departed.
- Support student-athletes academic progress by reinforcing school expectations and communicating with teachers and counselors as appropriate.
- Organize and maintain uniforms equipment and supplies; recommend purchases and repairs consistent with district procedures and safety standards.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with student-athletes and families regarding schedules expectations fundraisers competitions and program information.
- Recruit train and mentor assistant/stunt coaches (if applicable) to ensure consistency with program philosophy safety protocols and district policies.
- Utilize technology appropriately for communication scheduling and program organization in accordance with district technology policies.
- Adhere to the professional code of ethics including confidentiality appropriate boundaries and mandated reporting obligations.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Follow district financial procedures and Redbook guidelines for any school activity funds fundraising and booster-supported purchases connected to the cheer program.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Cheerleading fundamentals including motions jumps stunts tumbling dance and crowd leadership.
- Current safety standards and best practices for cheerleading (including proper stunt progressions spotting surfaces and emergency procedures).
- KHSAA and/or governing body rules and basic regulations related to high school cheer and eligibility as applicable in the district.
- Health and safety regulations related to interscholastic activities including conditioning injury prevention and emergency response.
- Adolescent development positive coaching practices and strategies for building a healthy team culture.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
Ability to:
- Plan and conduct effective organized practices that develop skills teamwork and school spirit.
- Teach model and reinforce positive sportsmanship character and professional conduct.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions and implement school/district and applicable activity/athletic regulations.
- Work cooperatively with administrators staff event personnel parents and community members.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and ensure the safety and welfare of student-athletes in all settings.
- Communicate effectively with students and families both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- For Certified Applicants:
- Valid Kentucky teaching certification.
- For Classified/Paraprofessional Applicants:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- For All Coaches:
- Criminal records check as specified by Kentucky law.
- Meet health requirements per district policy.
- Completion of all district- and KHSAA-required trainings (CPR/First Aid heat illness concussion child abuse/neglect bullying/hazing suicide prevention and other mandated trainings) within required timelines.
- Prior experience as a head cheer coach or coordinator is preferred.
