The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs(DMVA) Division ofAK Military Youth Academy (AMYA) is recruiting for a Life Skills Coordinator position with the Recruitment Placement and Mentoring (RPM) Section!
This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16.
This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access which is required with this positions work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License proof of vehicle insurance and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.
State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the States control.
Special Note:In addition in some cases employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). As part of the examination process a background check investigation including a criminal records check will be conducted. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited college;
AND
Possession of a valid Alaska drivers license.
Substitution:
Experience in counseling interviewing case management or work specifically in the behavioral or social services fields may substitute for the required education (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience). This experience includes work such as AMYA Team Leader Senior Team Leader or Youth Counselor with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Special Note:
As part of the examination process a background investigation including a criminal records check will be conducted. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.

It involves working both indoors and outdoors sometimes in challenging situations such as de-escalating crises or encountering wildlife on campus. The role is based on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson requiring passing a security check and strict adherence to security protocols. It also involves a non-standard schedule including evenings weekends and on-call rotations emphasizing the need for flexibility and resilience in a dynamic secure environment.
