High School Counelor 11 Month position
Salary Per Instructional Salary Scale - Exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Director of School Counseling and Student Services Osbourn High School
General Responsibilities: In collaboration with the school counseling staff develops and implements a comprehensive college and career information program for students in grades 9-12.
Essential Duties:

- Provides counseling services to students and leads counseling groups during and after school to support the social/emotion needs of our students.
- Collects and provides current information on careers colleges trade schools and employment opportunities career and educational decision-making services financial aid job placement apprenticeships and college and employment tests.
- Reviews selects and maintains a wide variety of reference materials on colleges trade schools scholarships financial aid resources available at local state and national levels and other career opportunities.
- Develops career center orientations for individual students and classroom groups at each grade level.
- Schedules all functions on the centers calendar.
- Maintains and provides access to numerous financial aid and scholarship documents.
- Develops and coordinates a job referral bureau and bulletin board for part-time employment.
- Collects and provides current information on academic and personal summer programs and enrichment opportunities on the high school and college level.
- Serves as the contact and host for all college visits.
- Visits college campuses upon invitation and prepares information reports and serves as a resource for students interested in the college.
- Promotes career education throughout the school via announcements bulletin boards school newspapers and PTA meetings.
- Publicizes activities of the career center through local media to business organizations.
- Monitors implementation of Naviance to include high school profile for college applications and updated transcript uploads.
- Prepares transcripts and assists with the NCAA course approval process.
- Provides ACT/SAT information to all students parents and staff monitoring accommodations and fee waivers.
- Coordinates ASVAB and distributes test results as appropriate.
- Assists students in finding training-oriented employment opportunities.
- Develops college/career related instructional materials to be presented and/or used by teachers students and counselors needed for research assignments and post high school planning.
- Provides opportunities for parents and students to learn about and obtain financial aid resources.
- Plans and facilitates job fairs and other networking and hiring events.
- Organizes college fairs and college visit trips for the 11th and 12th graders.
- Creates and manages a database of volunteer opportunities for students.
- Coordinates recruitment sessions with college admission officers and military recruiters.
- Maintains scholarship database and assists in completing college application forms advertises available scholarships.
- Partners with School Counselors in delivering college and career exploration lessons/presentations to students.
- Coordinates and organizes the annual scholarship ceremony.
- Tracks student use of the College and Career Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication relationship development collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Able to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Outstanding coaching skills with some level of student involvement.
- Experience developing internal and external customer/client relationships and programs.
- Knowledge and experience with vocational school placement and career services.
- Experience working in a career development or recruiting environment.
- Able to be flexible and work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment with a diverse population.
- Capable of handling confidential and sensitive information following confidentiality guidelines.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess or be eligible for a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in a state approved school counselor preparation program.
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Pupil Personnel Services License with a School Counselor endorsement.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physically capable of effectively using and operating various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
