Reporting to the Executive Director Research & Early Pipeline Communications the Associate Director Research Communications Informatics Computational & Discovery Sciences supports the execution of research and early pipeline communications across BMS Informatics and Predictive Sciences Therapeutic Discovery Sciences and Computational Sciences platforms.
This role implements communications strategies that elevate BMS scientific leadership in data-driven discovery advanced analytics computational biology and translational sciences. Responsibilities include supporting external scientific collaborations data and regulatory milestones partner announcements medical congresses and speaking opportunities for research leaders. The Associate Director contributes to earned owned and paid media initiatives with a focus on high-quality execution creative storytelling and thought-leadership amplification that reinforces BMS reputation as an innovation-driven biopharmaceutical company.
The position requires strong collaboration across Corporate Affairs and close partnership with cross-functional stakeholders in Research Medical Development Commercial Investor Relations and agency teams to deliver coordinated timely and globally aligned communications programs.
Key Responsibilities
Implement communications strategies for Informatics and Predictive Sciences Therapeutic Discovery Sciences and Computational Sciences in alignment with direction set by Research leadership and the Executive Director supporting integrated programs content and initiatives that reinforce enterprise scientific narratives.
Develop and execute integrated communications plans that highlight platform science digital innovation and early discovery efforts elevating the visibility and impact of BMS research capabilities.
Oversee development of compelling content related to key targets pathways computational approaches data science applications and thematic research priorities ensuring alignment with the evolving pipeline and BMS scientific positioning.
Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to support disclosures and updates associated with medical meetings earnings scientific collaborations and other research milestones including managing timelines and prioritization.
Partner with Corporate Affairs colleagues to execute cohesive communications strategies spanning research development and commercial functions around major scientific and corporate events.
Execute multi-channel communications approaches collaborating with internal teams and agency partners to ensure accurate timely deployment across digital and social channels as well as tracking performance and reporting results.
Support globally aligned communications by ensuring international colleagues have access to approved messaging materials and resources necessary to engage local stakeholders on research strategies and platform innovations.
Collaborate across functions to ensure smooth narrative transitions as pipeline assets move from discovery and early research into later stages of development.
Manage day-to-day engagement with external PR agencies supporting execution of projects timelines deliverables and budget tracking.
Operate effectively within a matrixed organization managing multiple workstreams and contributing to a collaborative high-performance team environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Approximately 7 to 10 years of communications experience in the pharmaceutical biotechnology life sciences or related industries preferred or a combination of professional experience that provides an equivalent foundation; agency experience highly desirable.
Bachelors degree required preferably in journalism communications public relations life sciences or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels within a matrixed organization and to counsel senior leaders.
Experience managing complex multinational issues and special situations within scientific or corporate environments.
Exceptional collaborative and team-building skills.
Outstanding writing presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific and technical concepts into clear compelling narratives.
Strong research and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to quickly learn the business and scientific landscape and excel in a fast-paced evolving environment.
Self-directed with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple competing priorities.
Proficiency with digital communications and effective use of social media platforms.
Proficiency with generative AI platforms and demonstrated commitment to staying current with evolving technologies and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams delegate appropriately and ensure effective information sharing and visibility across matrixed organizations.

Compensation Overview:
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job such as required skills where the job is performed the employees work schedule job-related knowledge and experience. Final individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off
US Exempt Employees: flexible time off (unlimited with manager approval 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix AZ Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees)
Phoenix AZ Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt Non-Exempt Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval 11 national holidays and 3 optional holidays
Based on eligibility* additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time up to 2 paid volunteer days per year summer hours flexibility leaves of absence for medical personal parental caregiver bereavement and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.
All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.
*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours depending on the nature of their work and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible.
