The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Support Services Specialist. The Support Services Specialist provides clinical operational support to ensure effective and efficient delivery of health care in the IVF- Andrology laboratory.
Position Responsibilities
- Contacts patients after their initial storage period has ended and assures that disposition directives are communicated to the laboratory and confirmed with the patients. Scans disposition forms into EPIC.
- Assists with daily and annual billing.
- Schedules appointments in EPIC for cryopreserved embryo sperm and oocytes storage billing.
- Links storage billing appointments when checking patients in for billing.
- Enters patient demographics into the SART CORS web-based database for compliance with the Fertility Clinic Success Rate and Certification Act.
- Prospectively reports cycle starts into SART CORS. Prospective reporting requires that the cycle be reported within 4 days of cycle start with the accurate cycle type. This requires interpretation of documentation in the EMR cycle episode.
- Scans IVF outcome forms into EPIC.
- Assists with finalizing yearly data and verifying accuracy in the national SART/CDC assisted reproductive technology registry prior to final data submission deadline. Assist with data entry for reproductive testing laboratory procedures as needed.
- Places and receives orders for laboratory supplies. Interacts with vendors as needed.
- Assists with collection of medical record information for cryopreserved embryo sperm and oocyte ship outs.
- Collaborates with peers and co-workers to enhance the delivery of health care.
- Provides feedback to management on means to achieve goals and resolve service issues.
- Participates in chart audits to assure that all laboratory charges are billed.
- Contributes ideas and seek ways to improve assigned processes.
- May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision for students/temporary staff.
- May analyze monitor and report financial data information and reports.
- May initiate purchasing requests for supplies.
- Responsible for IVF-Andrology laboratory daily billing and mass yearly storage charges for sperm and embryos.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 6 months - 1 year of administrative experience
- Proficiency with computer software i.e. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word Outlook PowerPoint Teams) and database applications

- Knowledge of UI Health Care policies procedures and regulations
