Job Summary

3 Month Contract With A local Authority


Job Purpose

The Waste Audit & Contract Officer will undertake monitoring and auditing activities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation internal governance procedures and operational standards within the Material Transfer and Recovery Department. The role includes conducting routine waste audits verifying documentation related to waste movement and supporting the development of initiatives that improve waste management practices in line with the waste hierarchy.



Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine monitoring and auditing activities to ensure compliance with waste management legislation and internal governance procedures.

  • Conduct regular waste audits across operational areas within the Material Transfer and Recovery Department.

  • Undertake spot checks to verify the accurate completion of documentation associated with material movement including Waste Transfer Notes site diaries and vehicle access/egress records.

  • Verify that hazardous waste is documented correctly including the completion and validation of consignment notes.

  • Support the development and implementation of waste-related initiatives that enhance compliance with policies and promote improvements aligned with the waste hierarchy.

  • Lead the preparation of documentation and evidence required for external BSI and PAS400 audits ensuring all relevant information is accurate and available for assessment.

  • Provide operational support to weighbridge activities ensuring the accurate classification and recording of waste streams.

  • Manage the Grade 4 Material Movement Administrator providing guidance oversight and support in resolving operational queries.

  • Actively support and promote the principles and practice of equality of opportunity in accordance with the Councils Equal Opportunities Policy.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of waste management legislation and compliance requirements including hazardous waste regulations.

  • Understanding of internal governance audit procedures and documentation practices within waste management operations.

  • Familiarity with waste hierarchy principles and policy frameworks.

  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to waste operations.

  • Strong attention to detail for auditing checking documentation and verifying compliance.

  • Ability to conduct audits spot checks and prepare reports for both internal and external review.

  • Competent in managing operational documentation including Waste Transfer Notes site diaries consignment notes and weighbridge records.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage workloads prioritizing tasks effectively.

  • Ability to lead supervise and support staff (e.g. Grade 4 Material Movement Administrator).

  • Effective communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external auditors

Required Skills:

Previous experience as an estate cleaner General education qualification (desirable) UK driving licence
