Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care and clinical support to patients in a Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit. The LPN works with patients ages 517 assisting physicians and registered nurses in delivering patient care monitoring patient conditions and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. This role requires strong communication skills clinical knowledge and the ability to support patients in an acute care behavioral health setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to children and adolescents in a behavioral health unit.
Assist with patient intake by greeting patients directing them to exam rooms and preparing them for evaluation.
Measure and record vital signs and patient health indicators.
Assist physicians and registered nurses during examinations and procedures.
Prepare and organize clinical supplies and treatment trays for injections and procedures.
Administer medications and injections as directed and within scope of practice.
Observe patient behavior and responses to treatment and report findings to supervising nurses.
Implement nursing care activities according to established patient care plans.
Maintain accurate patient documentation in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Assist with scheduling chart preparation and general clinical administrative tasks.
Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain authorization for procedures or treatments.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and clinical areas.
Participate in activities related to nursing unit operations and patient care management.
Communicate effectively with patients families and healthcare team members.
Required Qualifications
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in New York State.
CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
Minimum 1 year of behavioral health or psychiatric care experience.
Experience working with children and adolescents (ages 517).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Inpatient hospital experience.
Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Experience assisting with medical procedures and patient care coordination.
