Job Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will lead all EHS efforts for the plant. This employee will manage and develop EHS procedures this includes auditing all procedures and managing training activities for all procedures. The EHS manager and EHS department are a key component in new employee orientation: training employees (in person) setting up online training sessions and maintaining training records. This person will review all incident reports investigations and corrective actions. All environmental permits compliance reporting and environmental impacts are the responsibility of the EHS Manager.
  • Manage company safety and environmental policies and procedures as well as ensure the Company is in compliance with OSHA EPA and DNR regulations.
  • Offer new ideas while being conscientious self-starting and striving for excellence in all areas of job responsibilities.
  • Key member of the plants leadership team.
  • Assurance of compliance to all regulations and standards at site. Primary point of contact for safety and environmental issues.
  • Investigate industrial accidents and incidents. Drive investigations to the root cause of issues and build consensus with both plant and corporate partners on permanent solutions. These solutions need to be created in a timely manner.
  • Maintain liaison with national state and local safety and environmental organizations and take an active role in activities of such groups. Maintain federal state and local safety and environmental record keeping and permit requirements. Must be proactive in meeting all regulatory deadlines in both safety and environmental compliance reporting.
  • Be engaged with all plant leadership down to the production floor. Use the relationships that you build to coordinate and conduct training to maintain compliance with federal state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Primary contact person for inspection conducted by local state and federal safety and environmental enforcement agencies.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene testing.
  • Specify and order safety or environment equipment beyond the stores regular purchasing items.
  • Facilitate safety awareness across a large manufacturing facility. This includes coordinating Safety Committee meetings plant leadership briefings and meetings weekly injury reporting and mitigation activities and hands on activities promoting safety on our production floor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Degree in environmental science health and safety or another related field
  • 5-10 years experience in an industrial setting
  • 5 years in EHS experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CSP ASP or other certification
  • CPR and first aid
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with OSHA EPA and state regulations
  • Able to communicate with all levels of employees from upper management to hourly employees
  • Responsible for driving a consistent message throughout the organization
  • Ability to do the right thing when no one is looking and strength to stand up when situations arise that put people or the environment at risk
  • Drives continuous improvement knowing that even small improvements contribute to the success of the organization
Work Environment
This position operates in the office and in the plant. All aspects of the operation will be part of the EHS managers job function. This will take the employee from the office to all areas of the plant storage areas maintenance areas and exterior of the building.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand walk or sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision and color vision. The employee will be subject to heat and to cold temperatures.

Summary

Americas Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor carcass chillers fabrication area rendering further processing area storage coolers freezers and loading docks.
