Job Summary

Introduction

You will work at the interface between electronics development and operations contributing to the full lifecycle of electronic boards and test equipment used in CERNs large-scale power converter systems.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams you will help ensure that electronic systems are reliable testable maintainable and well documented. You will also contribute to continuous improvement of testing methods quality processes and long-term sustainability of electronic assets.

Functions

  • Design and develop analogue and digital electronics for production and repair test fixtures from schematics and printed circuit board (PCB) layouts ensuring compatibility with software and firmware.
  • Be responsible for the full lifecycle of test equipment ensuring high availability and maintaining complete technical documentation.
  • Contribute to design for repairability and testability by analysing failure modes sharing findings and collaborating with development teams to integrate test and repair requirements into future designs.
  • Act as technical point of contact for external repair teams supporting and performing repair operations organising activities and defining priorities to ensure long-term reliability of electronic assets.
  • After appropriate training you will also join our stand-by team participating in interventions on operational power converters.

Qualifications :

Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Electronics Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in analogue and digital electronics design and development including printed circuit board layouts.
  • Relevant experience in electronics testing troubleshooting and fault analysis and related processes.
  • Exposure to software development used in electronics testing or control systems is an asset.

Technical competencies:

  • Testing and measurement of analog electronic circuits including a functional understanding of Microcontrollers software and FPGA gateware to facilitate comprehensive system-level hardware validation.
  • Design of analogue and digital electronic circuits utilising industry-standard tools (e.g. Altium Designer).
  • Knowledge of industry standard software for test automation.

Employment Conditions

Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Job Flexibility: Hybrid

This position involves:

  • Participation in a regular stand-by duty including nights Sundays and official holidays.
  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Shift work when required by the needs of the Organisation.
  • Exposure to lead.
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
  • Given the occupational health risks associated with this position the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
