The Chief CRNA will work in conjunction with the Medical Director of Anesthesia anesthesiologists CRNA staff and all healthcare providers involved in the care of patients requiring analgesia/anesthesia services.
Description
A qualified Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist involved in the administration of anesthesia related services as delineated by the Department of Anesthesia. Actively manages and maintains the daily services provided at the facility by the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist staff including: culture manpower budget and all aspects related to the practice and performance of anesthesia and analgesia.
Qualifications:
1. Holds current state licensure as a registered nurse in the state of practice and complies with the applicable state statutory or regulatory requirements of the State Board of Nurse Examiners for the state of employment.
2. Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
3. Holds active license as an Advanced Practice Nurse Anesthetist (if applicable) in the state of practice.
4. Maintains educational requirements for licensure and certification.
5. Complies with one of the following requirements regarding certification eligibility initial certification or recertification:
a. Is currently certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
b. Is currently recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
c.
6. Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by the group institution or state.
7. Demonstrates current competency in those clinical responsibilities for which the candidate applies.
8. CRNA may also be required to hold additional licensures certifications and/or education as required by facility and/or state for which they are assigned.
Responsibilities:
A. Daily performance of anesthesia:
Works independently (per state regulations and facility bylaws) or in collaboration with anesthesiologists surgeons and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures.
Cares for patient before during and after a medical procedure or surgery by: performing a preanesthesia assessment preparing the patient for anesthesia inducing and maintaining intra-procedure anesthesia and providing postanesthesia.
Proficient in anesthesia-related procedures in accordance with facility clinical privileges: peripheral IV insertion arterial and central venous access line placement endotracheal intubation and extubation placement of regional anesthesia blocks to include spinal epidural and peripheral nerve blocks.
Able to perform following anesthesia techniques (where applicable): general anesthesia monitored anesthesia care and regional anesthesia for patients including patients who require anesthesia intervention.
Responds to off-site emergencies per facility policy intervening to ensure patient stabilization and transport.
Handles controlled substances in accordance with Drug Enforcement Agency State Pharmaceutical regulations and facility requirements.
Performs other duties as required.
B. Leadership/Management of Nurse Anesthesia Staff:
Develops staff schedule that meets the contractual anesthesia service agreement
Provide environment/time allotment for staff CRNA compliance training completion
Proficient in NorthStar IT-based platforms for scheduling time-keeping compliance human resources and payroll management
Collaborates with Medical Director/Regional CRNA for Quality Incentive completion (where applicable)
Active in hospital-based committees that support anesthesia participation
Adhere to and communicates NorthStar Policy and Procedures to staff CRNA teammates.
D. Department Budgetary Management
Develop and maintain staff schedules that reflect budgetary accountability. This will be done in conjunction with Regional CRNA leadership.
Collaborate with Regional leadership and Operations Management to manage provider expenses and control outside CRNA expenses
Understands and participates in billing process including completion of Information Requests from billing company to ensure timely submission of anesthesia charges
Assist NorthStar management and assigned facilities in product evaluation and cost saving measures.
