Job Title: PSYCHOLOGIST

Department: STUDENT SERVICES

POSITION SUMMARY:

The job of Psychologist is done for the purpose of assessing students intellectual and functional levels; developing recommendations for behavior plans and student placement; assisting in program development and implementation of self-contained classrooms for children with emotional disturbances; providing anger management and social skills training; collaborating with school personnel and community agencies as a member of a team to address the educational needs of children; and ensuring that multicultural and bilingual issues are addressed throughout assessment and service delivery. This position reports to the Director of Special Education or designated administrator and does not supervise any employees.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

To assess students for special education eligibility and consultation with school staff and parents regarding positive behavioral interventions and behavior plans. To provide therapeutic services as well as program consultation and evaluation to the staff of self-contained classrooms for students with emotional disturbances.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assessment Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates eligibility for special education services.
  • Assesses students functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining students functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (i.e. assessment reports correspondence for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information) in a timely manner.
  • Awareness of multicultural and second language issues when conducting assessments.

Social Learning Center Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with community agencies including medical judicial social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments etc. to meet the needs of specific students.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the Social Learning Center program as well as on-going program evaluation for the purpose of providing effective services to children who experience physical mental social or emotional difficulties.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills in the Social Learning Center.
  • Consults with teachers parents other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Provides training in social skills and anger management.

School-Wide Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with students parents teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs).
  • Participates in meetings workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Researches resources and methods (i.e. intervention and treatment techniques assessment tools and methods community resources etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students functional goals.
  • Supervises interns practicum students and others for the purpose of monitoring performance providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of schools curriculum.
  • Capacity to consult and collaborate in a positive manner as a member of a team.
  • Effective Time Management including:
    • Ability to prioritize
    • Completing assignments in a timely manner
    • Ability to follow special education legal timelines
    • Consulting with supervisors as needed
  • Counsels students who are in the special education process parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree or higher in school psychology or counseling or clinical psychology.
  • Oregon School Psychologist TSPC License OR Licensed as School Psychologist by the Oregon Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • Demonstrates command of the oral and written English language.
  • Experience and expertise in student behavior managements collaborative problem solving and staff development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to use a telephone operate a computer use other office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position the employee may be required to physically interact with students who are aggressive emotional and/or unpredictable in their reactions. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally may be very loud. The work environment may be fast paced and emotionally demanding.
