Job Description:
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Psychologist at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha. These professionals provide essential support to male youth. This vital role directly supports our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.
Key Responsibilities:
The Psychologist will:
- Review collateral clinical assessments and perform psychological evaluations and/or assessments of clinical need as necessary for residents of the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Centers in Hastings Kearney Lincoln and Omaha.
- Work directly with youth and/or their families for the provision of individual family and group therapy services.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- May provide training for other Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center staff.
Work Schedule & Flexibility:The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The full-time work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility available. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation which includes weeknights weekends and holidays.
Wage: Negotiable
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:Must be licensed to practice psychology in the state of Nebraska. A doctoral degree in psychology is required. Licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Nebraska is preferred but may have a provisional license as a Psychologist.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with adolescents and families particularly as it relates to behavioral/mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders and trauma.
Work Environment & Expectations:The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha will be opening in mid-late 2026. This program was established to provide services to male youth and offers evidence-based cognitive behavioral skill-building and substance abuse programming including:
- Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
- Aggression Replacement Training (ART)
- Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA)
- Lion Hearts Power Source Program
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Additional groups include youth feedback and team building.
- Individual therapy is also offered to youth with behavioral mental health and substance abuse needs. Therapists use an integrated care model to address co-occurring issues.
- Youth who have the need will receive management for psychotropic medications through a contracted Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Psychiatric APRN.
- Case Managers and therapists work together to develop case plans with outcomes determined by each youths risks and needs. Other assessments are used to determine treatment needs.
- Youth can earn incentives and privileges based on positive behavior. Incentives can include group outings special treats or other fun on-campus or off-campus activities.
- Youth may also participate in community service projects based on positive behaviors and earned privileges.
