Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Apparel Graphic Designer on behalf of our client an experienced creative professional who can drive product design development and sourcing administration while ensuring cohesive sellable product ranges for wholesale and retail markets.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct trend forecasting and translate insights for the South African consumer landscape.
- Perform regular competitor shopping and analysis to support brand positioning.
- Assist in building seasonal ranges and preparing range laydowns for sign-off.
- Analyse product performance on best and worst sellers during and after season.
- Prepare full design briefs including spec input and detailed CAD/tech pack creation.
- Resolve factory queries and support product development workflows.
- Approve fabrics lab dips trims embellishments and provide detailed sample comments.
- Conduct garment fittings with QA offering analytical fit and styling feedback.
- Maintain an organised library of samples swatches and quality approvals.
- Manage filing systems spreadsheets and CAD summaries accurately.
- Compile and update production summaries and seasonal catalogues.
- Oversee inventory and photographic records of original overseas samples.
- Prepare and issue comprehensive CAD tech packs from sample stage to confirmed orders.
- Work closely with suppliers to resolve development queries and reinforce deadlines.
- Follow up on fits PPS and approval processes to ensure production timelines are met.
- Support retail and franchise stores with product-related queries.
- Drive mens apparel development and support boys wear ranges during peak seasons.
- Manage and distribute salesmen samples.
Requirements:
- Strong commercial awareness and proven success in apparel merchandising.
- Excellent communication negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
- High organisational capability with the skill to manage multiple ranges and deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of apparel production fabrications and quality standards.
- Leadership ability to mentor and guide team members.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or degree in Fashion Merchandising Business or a related field.
- 58 years experience in apparel merchandising or apparel graphic design.
