Job Description: Cloud Data Engineer (SAS-to-Snowflake Migration)Position Title: Cloud Data EngineerPosition OverviewThe Cloud Data Engineer will work with the lead to support the design and implementation of a modern cloud-based data architecture as part of the transition from legacy SAS-based ETL processes to Snowflake. The role involves defining the technical roadmap data modeling standards integration strategies and cloud-native patterns that support performance scalability and security across the data pipeline.
Key Responsibilities- Architect end-to-end migration strategyfrom SAS ETL solutions to Snowflake in AWS.
- Design scalable and secure Snowflake data architectures including schemas roles data access and performance strategies.
- Define and guide thedata modelingprocess (e.g. star schema normalization de-normalization) for analytical and operational use cases.
- Collaborate with ETL developers to translate existing SAS logic into optimized Snowflake-based workflows.
- Configure and advise onAWS services(e.g. S3 Lambda Glue IAM) that integrate with Snowflake.
- Establishcloud governance frameworksincluding cost control monitoring and logging.
- Support the development ofCI/CD pipelinesfor Snowflake deployment (e.g. dbt GitHub Actions).
- Implementdata security and compliance controlsaligned with FedRAMP/NIST standards.
- Lead architectural reviews and provide technical oversight throughout the migration lifecycle.
Required Qualifications- 7 years of experience indata architecture with at least 3 years incloud-native environments(AWS preferred).
- Proven experience designing and implementingSnowflake-based data platforms.
- Strong background indata modelingand SQL performance tuning.
- Familiarity withlegacy SAS systemsand understanding of SAS dataset structure/logic.
- Hands-on experience withcloud services(AWS Snowflake) anddata integration frameworks(e.g. dbt Glue Matillion).
- Strong understanding ofIAM encryption RBAC and other data security practices.
Preferred Qualifications- AWS Solutions Architect certification
- Snowflake SnowPro certification
- Experience in government or highly regulated industries (e.g. USDA HHS DoD)
- Familiarity with Agile delivery and DevOps practices
