Job Summary

Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6 at Annandale and North Shore.

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students including 120 boarders (7-12) of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

We are seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our academic leadership team as Head of Faculty Business & Humanities commencing in Term 2 2026. This is a key middle leadership role responsible for leading a high-performing Faculty across Years 712 and ensuring the delivery of rigorous engaging and future-focused programs in the Humanities and Business disciplines.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for excellence in teaching and learning strong leadership capability and the ability to build a collaborative Faculty culture focused on improving student outcomes.

About the Role

The Head of Faculty Business & Humanities provides strategic and operational leadership across the Faculty overseeing curriculum development assessment practices and the professional growth of staff. The role plays a critical part in ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across subjects such as Business Economics Accounting and the Humanities disciplines.

Working closely with the Director of Studies Director of Academics Deputy Principal and IB Co-ordinator (where applicable) the successful applicant will ensure that programs align with QCAA and IB requirements support strong academic performance and contribute to the Schools broader Teaching and Learning Framework.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Faculty Business & Humanities will:

  • Provide strategic leadership of the Faculty ensuring the delivery of high-quality curriculum programs in Business and Humanities across Years 712.
  • Lead and support Faculty staff to achieve excellence in teaching practice aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and the Schools Teaching and Learning Framework.
  • Oversee curriculum planning assessment practices and moderation processes ensuring compliance with QCAA and IB requirements where applicable.
  • Analyse and monitor student performance data identifying trends and implementing strategies to maximise student achievement and ATAR outcomes.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an annual Faculty Plan focused on continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Provide line management mentoring and performance guidance for Faculty staff supporting professional growth and staff wellbeing.
  • Manage Faculty operational responsibilities including work programs unit plans reporting processes learning management systems and resource planning.
  • Engage constructively with parents and students regarding curriculum matters and academic progress.
  • Contribute to the broader life of the School through pastoral co-curricular and community engagement activities.

About You

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Proven leadership capability within a secondary school faculty or subject area.
  • Strong expertise in Business and/or Humanities curriculum including experience with QCAA senior syllabuses (IB experience highly regarded).
  • A strong understanding of data-informed teaching practice and strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead mentor and inspire staff.
  • Highly organised professional practice with strong attention to curriculum quality and compliance.
  • Commitment to the ethos values and co-curricular life of an independent school.

Applicants must:

  • Hold appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications.
  • Hold or be eligible for teacher registration in Queensland.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional learning and leadership development.
  • Have a high level of knowledge of current education trends and contemporary teaching pedagogy.
  • Have in depth knowledge of the Queensland Curriculum.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to work positively and collaboratively with other teachers and build positive working relationships.
  • Be willing to fully engage in the school community and get involved in extra-curricular activities offered.
  • Commit to Pastoral Care and meeting the social and emotional wellbeing needs of students.
