JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:

The Division of Social Work at the University of Wyominginvites applications for a 9-month full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position on the Laramie campus starting in August 2026. We are particularly interested in applicants who want to be part of a small but diverse faculty that is energized to enhance and expand its programs with a focus on advancing human rights and dignity and serving rural communities. Persons with said commitment and expertise in teaching generalist and advanced generalist practice at the micro mezzo and macro levels are encouraged to apply; also persons with a special interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate social work policy courses are especially encouraged to apply.

The Division of Social Work offers a Generalist BSW program and an Advanced Generalist MSW program enrolling approximately 50 undergraduate and 60 graduate students. The MSW program offers two flexible options to meet the needs of students across the state. The full-time MSW option based in Laramie utilizes a hybrid model that combines distance education with intensive face-to-face weekend classes. Additionally there is a part-time option housed at the University of Wyoming Casper Campus which also follows the hybrid format with weekend classes and distance options provide flexible learning opportunities while maintaining a balance of distance and in-person instruction. The BSW program offers traditional on-campus programs in Laramie and Casper. The Division has a commitment to scholarship education and practice rooted in the principles and values of social justice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintaining an active research/scholarly program; teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; advising students; supervising/chairing graduate student portfolios/research projects; conducting field liaison work; participating in division college university and professional activities; providing service and outreach activities; and participating in curriculum and program position requires weekend and/or evening teaching periodic travel within the state and classroom teaching and distance education delivery systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EarnedPh.D. in social work or a closely related field (doctorate must be successfully defended prior to the anticipated starting date).
  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited programor equivalency as determined by CSWE.
  • Two years of post-MSW practice experience
  • Ability and willingness to teach during evening classes and scheduled intensive weekend sessions.
  • Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in social work or related field.
  • Experience in working with rural populations.
  • Experience using distance education technology.
  • Experience in a generalist/advanced generalist social work education program.

Applicants should be able toteach social policy at both the BSW and MSW levels. Additional teaching areas may includeHuman Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE) community and organizational practice leadership and supervision and other courses across theGeneralist and Advanced Generalist Curricula. Evidence of research competence and the potential to develop a strong scholarly agendais expected.
