Western Reserve Academy is a private boarding school for grades 9 through 12 located in the scenic town of Hudson Ohio. Our 190-acre grounds named one of Americas most beautiful feature green lawns extensive athletic fields a cross country course and a tranquil hockey pond. As an Athletic Field Technician you will play a key role in maintaining our top-quality athletic facilities and supporting our students experiences.
Position Summary: This position is responsible for the maintenance repair and preparation of Western Reserve Academys athletic facilities including fields tennis courts and the stadium. Duties include preparing spaces for games practices and rentals. The role works in coordination with and is supported by the Facilities Department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all field maintenance such as rolling topdressing painting and lining grooming and disinfecting of athletic fields.
- Maintain all athletic fields in a game ready status.
- Set up and tear down for External Program rentals.
- Setup game and practice fields for sporting events to include painting game-day field preparation and field equipment placement as appropriate. i.e. game clocks press box shot clocks.
- Maintain inventory of turf products and supplies to include fertilizers pesticides paint disinfectant turf drying materials and tools for athletic fields.
- Maintain spectator seating areas including stadium baseball softball field hockey soccer fields and indoor seating.
- Maintain all tennis courts including nets windscreens fencing hard playing surface minor repairs and painting and keep courts clean and free of debris.
- Maintain and set up indoor facilities for games practices and rentals
- Operate and maintain equipment such as spreaders sprayers trimmers and painting equipment used for athletic fields.
- Provide related routine turf maintenance to athletic fields.
- Perform general maintenance and trash removal tasks on athletic fields and tennis courts as appropriate.
- Will be part of the campus snow crew.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated representatives.
- Responsible for assembly and repair of all goals and nets for soccer lacrosse field hockey volleyball basketball for indoor and outdoor use.
- Assist the maintenance department with events such as Graduation setup/teardown reunion weekend and other events.
- Assist the maintenance department when not busy with Athletic responsibilities.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; understand enforce and follow safety procedures; knowledge of sports turf management; ability to use hand and power tools; ability to operate heavy equipment as required by this position.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years athletic field/turf maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of basic horticulture and Sports Turf Management
- Basic mathematical knowledge for measuring and field layouts.
- Strong knowledge of power equipment maintenance and operation.
Physical Demands:
- This position requires regular use of hands to handle tools equipment and controls as well as reaching with hands and arms. The employee must be able to communicate effectively including talking and hearing. The role requires frequent walking and standing and may occasionally involve climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching or crawling. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently lift or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds. The position also requires close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work may take place near moving mechanical parts and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to electrical equipment elevated work areas chemicals vibration and wet or humid conditions.
