Job Summary

Title: Lower School Head Teacher

Requirements:Masters Degree or equivalent in teaching

Reports to: Lower School Division Head

Primary Responsibilities:Planning instruction and assessment for 24 Lower School students and general oversight of their social-emotional well-being; ongoing development of curriculum materials and resources; integration with other Lower School curriculum areas and specialists; creative problem-solving and joyful collaboration with colleagues to design learning experiences for students; timely and professional oral and written communication across constituencies; mutually respectful partnership with parents.

Hours/Classification: Full-Time Exempt; 10 months

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assume primary responsibility for the instruction and supervision of a homeroom of 24 eager learners
  • Teach with a deep understanding of the developmental needs of young girls and children in general
  • Demonstrate cultural humility and a keen awareness of ones own identity
  • Work collaboratively with an associate teacher to provide differentiation and support for all learners
  • Serve as a mentor teacher for an associate teacher in the classroom
  • Provide daily instruction in language arts mathematics social studies social/emotional learning and anti-bias education
  • Integrate relevant technology tools and media resources to enhance and elevate instruction
  • Implement all curricula as identified in the Hamlin K-8 Curriculum Grid and grade level scopes and sequences
  • Communicate and collaborate with other faculty and staff regarding each girls progress and success
  • Assess student progress using a variety of methods both formative and summative
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the program and student progress including parent-teacher conferences emails report cards open houses admissions events and curriculum showcases
  • Attend Student Support Services Meetings to engage in collaborative discussions and sharing of student concerns
  • Identify materials resources and technology needs for program
  • Create and update web page (s) and blog (s) as required (monthly and weekly respectively)
  • Participate actively and meaningfully in division meetings and all-employees meetings
  • Pursue local and national opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Supervise students in a variety of settings such as recess lunch field trips neighborhood walks etc.
  • Participate in planning and chaperoning of outdoor education trips
  • Participate in the life of the school by leading affinity groups or alliances coaching a Middle School team or athletic club etc. (without compromising daily teaching responsibilities)
  • Perform other duties consistent with the above responsibilities

    Physical Requirements:

    • This position is 100% on site.
    • Ability to lift and carry packages and equipment up to 25 lbs.
    • Ability to walk stand and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
    • Demonstrate normal depth perception
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard operate standard office equipment and use a telephone
    • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
    • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides


    Work Authorization Requirements

    • Clear the Department of Justice background screening (Livescan)
    • Authorized to work in the United States (I-9)
    • Provide health (TB) clearance (an update is expected every four years)
