The Reynoldsburg City Schools Director of Athletics is responsible for providing strategic leadership administrative direction and daily oversight for the Districts comprehensive 7-12 interscholastic athletic program. This position ensures that all athletic activities align with the Districts educational mission maintain strict compliance with state and federal regulations and foster a safe inclusive environment that promotes the physical social and academic development of all student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Education Sports Management Business Administration or a related field.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of successful experience in athletic administration educational leadership or high-level sports management.
  • Certifications: Possess or be eligible for a valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) including CPR First Aid Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certifications.
  • Logistics: Valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operators license; must pass a criminal background check (BCI/FBI).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale budgets and personnel teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Sports Administration or Educational Leadership.
  • Valid Ohio Administrative license (Principal or Superintendent).
  • Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) or Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) designation.
  • Prior experience as a head coach or district-level administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Strategic Departmental Leadership

  • Visionary Planning: Establishes a long-term vision for the athletic department that integrates the Portrait of an Educator into the student-athlete experience.
  • Policy Development: Develops and implements departmental policies handbooks and procedures that ensure equitable opportunities and high standards of conduct.
  • Program Evaluation: Evaluates the effectiveness of athletic programs and implements improvements based on district goals safety trends and community feedback.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Personnel Management and Evaluation

  • Staffing Lifecycle: Oversees the recruitment hiring onboarding and professional development of all coaches athletic trainers and support staff.
  • Accountability: Conducts performance evaluations for coaching staff and the Assistant Director of Athletics to ensure high levels of accountability and professional growth.
  • Labor Relations: Resolves personnel conflicts and manages labor relations issues within the department in coordination with Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Financial and Facilities Oversight

  • Fiscal Responsibility: Develops and monitors the annual athletic budget ensuring alignment with district priorities and Business Office protocols.
  • Internal Controls: Implements and monitors internal financial controls for all athletic revenue streams including digital ticketing platforms and gate-receipts to ensure compliance with Ohio Auditor of State standards.
  • Capital Planning: Collaborates with the Facilities Department to oversee the maintenance scheduling and long-term capital improvement/replacement cycles for all athletic venues and high-cost equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Compliance and Risk Management

  • Governing Body Liaison: Serves as the primary liaison to the OHSAA ensuring all teams and individuals meet eligibility residency and participation requirements.
  • Title IX Coordination: Monitors compliance with Title IX regulations and serves as the departmental lead for annual equity audits regarding programming facilities and funding.
  • Safety & Wellness: Implements comprehensive safety protocols including site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) concussion management and mandated student-athlete mental health training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: NIL and External Relations

  • Brand Management: Manages the Districts response to NIL (Name Image and Likeness) regulations providing education and monitoring disclosure requirements per OHSAA Bylaws.
  • Community Engagement: Coordinates with booster groups community partners and sponsors to enhance the athletic program through sustainable fundraising and engagement.
  • Media Representation: Represents the District at local regional and state-level athletic meetings and serves as the primary spokesperson for athletic-related inquiries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Event and Operations Oversight

  • Operational Excellence: Ensures the high-quality execution of all home athletic contests including security ticketing and sportsmanship.
  • Conflict Mediation: Mediates complex issues involving parents students officials and community members regarding participation or program concerns.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of: Comprehensive understanding of OHSAA bylaws Title IX school law public school finance and athletic facility maintenance standards.
  • Skilled in: High-level conflict resolution strategic planning public speaking and digital brand management.
  • Ability to: Lead and inspire a diverse team make difficult decisions under pressure and foster a culture of academic priority among student-athletes.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push pull lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Working Conditions: The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
  • Driving Requirement: This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
