Overview
M Health Fairview is looking for a part-time Medical Assistant to work atM Health Fairview Clinic - Burnsville. This is an 8 hour shift position with a one out of 5 weekend rotation at an alternate location. The work hours are between 7:00am to 6:30pm. Other site that this postion may cover is Lakeville clinic.
Responsibilities
The Clinic Laboratory Medical Assistant plays an important role in providing quality proficient and professional laboratory services to diverse populations within an ambulatory healthcare environment. The Medical Assistant in the Clinic Laboratory gathers information to support the patient visit. This includes laboratory specimen collection safe and secure specimen handling ensuring efficient workflow scheduling tests and providing results as appropriate.
The Medical Assistant also performs waived and moderate testing performs routine analysis and using standard operating procedures (SOP) operates and maintains instrumentation and information systems.
The Medical Assistant works independently under general supervision in the Clinic Laboratory
Job Expectations:
- Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens. perform waived or moderate testing and report results.
- Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established SOP
- Perform routine testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient cost effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology Coagulation Microbiology Serology Immunology Immunohematology Chemistry Special Chemistry Urinalysis and Phlebotomy.
- Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP.
- Perform and document maintenance procedures plus maintain adequate supplies.
- Seeks assistance appropriately for problem or unusual situations.
- Consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service standards. The standards include maintaining confidentiality promoting teamwork successful communication and conflict resolution. This may include:
- Schedule tests/procedures according to SOPs
- Verify patient demographic and billing insurance information for lab only employees
- Explain test procedures when applicable to patients in a manner geared to gain their confidence and cooperation and relieve anxiety about the test.
- Supports and adheres to laboratory SOPs quality assurance performance improvement and compliance programs recognizing trends and identifying when additional reporting communication or other action is appropriate.

- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or LPN
- Vocational/Technical Training or Associate Degree which includes the completion of a clinical internship of at least 3 months duration or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA88
License/Certification/Registration
- Eligibility for American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Phlebotomy Certification within 12 months of hire
- Initial or proof of existing certification and receipt of American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Phlebotomy Certification within 24 months of hire
- Certification must be maintained at the expense of the employee and is required for continued employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred
Experience
- Phlebotomy skills
- 1-3 years laboratory experience
License/Certification/Registration
- BLS preferred
- MN X-Ray operators exam/certification
Additional Requirements:
Excellent customer service public relations and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and work with a fluctuation in workload while working independently. Demonstrates focus on customer service/patient experience with every interaction. Ability to work as an effective team member to provide exceptional care.
