Technician Prototyping & Machining I II III (Medical Devices)
PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Technician Prototyping & Machining supports engineering design services and R&D
activities by fabricating modifying and assembling medical device prototypes tooling and fixtures.
This role places a strong emphasis on hands-on machining and prototype manufacturing using CNC
manual and custom-developed equipment. The position requires a demonstrated willingness and
capability to personally manufacture a wide variety of medical device prototypes while
collaborating closely with engineers in a regulated environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities All Machinist Levels (I II III)
Fabricate modify and assemble medical device prototypes tooling fixtures and
experimental components.
Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment including mills lathes grinders and
specialty equipment.
Manufacture prototype components using processes such as metal CNC and manual machining
tube bending forming swaging tip grinding laser cutting and laser welding.
Perform metal-to-plastic assembly including integration of machined metal parts with
injection-molded or rapid-prototyped components.
Support rapid design iteration by modifying prototype components based on engineering
feedback.
Read and interpret engineering drawings CAD models sketches and GD&T specifications.
Use precision inspection tools to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.
Maintain a clean organized and safe lab and tool room environment.
Comply with all safety quality and regulatory requirements.
Additional Responsibilities Level II III
Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians on manufacturability machining
methods and material selection.
Lead complex or high-precision prototype builds and process development activities.
Collaborate with Engineering on prototype development custom equipment and fixture design.
Support troubleshooting of fabrication assembly and test-related issues.
Assist with development and refinement of prototype fabrication processes and best practices.
Support special engineering R&D and facilities projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in machining or
manufacturing preferred.
Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field is a plus.
7 10 years of hands-on machining and prototype fabrication experience preferably in medical
device or regulated industries.
Demonstrated experience operating manual and CNC machining equipment; CNC programming
exposure (G-code and/or CAM systems) preferred.
Proven willingness to personally fabricate prototype components using a wide range of
manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings GD&T and technical specifications.
Strong understanding of machining methods tolerances materials and tooling selection.
Familiarity with plastic injection molding processes is a plus.
Experience working in ISO 13485 and FDA-regulated environments preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational machining training preferred.
Demonstrated experience operating manual and CNC equipment including lathes and mills;
CNC programming exposure (G-code and/or CAM systems) preferred.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings blueprints GD&T and specifications to
produce prototype and production components.
Experience fabricating prototype one-off and low-volume precision components tooling and
fixtures.
Working knowledge of precision inspection methods and measuring equipment.
Strong understanding of shop math tolerances materials machining processes and tooling
selection.
Familiarity with ISO-regulated and FDA-regulated manufacturing environments and
documentation practices preferred.
Machinist I/II/III progression aligned with demonstrated skill level experience and complexity
of work performed.
Experience Machinist: Typically 3 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing or tool
room environment.
Experience Lead Machinist: Typically 7 10 years of machining experience with demonstrated
leadership mentoring and work coordination responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment consists of both office areas and manufacturing environments that house
various types of machinery and equipment. Position requires the ability to stand for extended
periods lift up to 50 pounds perform repetitive hand motions and safely operate machinery. Must
be able to bend stoop reach push pull and work in typical manufacturing conditions including
noise dust heat and cold.
