King County Metro Transits Facilities Division has an exciting opportunity for a Transit Radio and Communication Systems Specialist- Lead. The Transit Radio and Communication Systems Specialist Lead will be responsible for leading the work of Radio & Communication Systems this role you will provide the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of electronic communication radio security closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems throughout the King County Metro Transit service area.

About Metros Transit Facilities Division:

King County Metro Transits Facilities Division maintains all Metro Transit properties such as bus bases park & rides bus shelters and offices and maintenance shops. Services include bus shelter repairs and replacements bus shelter cleaning trolley wire repairs radio maintenance for buses environmental spill clean-up bus sign replacement graffiti removal and other facilities maintenance duties. Internally team provides division-wide support functions for finance budget environmental compliance safety training administrative services and new employee orientation. Planning inventory/materials management work center workforce management functional asset management general/maintenance agreements systems support capital infrastructure sustainable resources/energy.

This recruitment is looking to immediately fill one (1) CareerService Transit Radio and Communication Systems Specialist- Lead addition this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Career Service as well as any fully benefited Term-Limited Temporary (TLT)and/or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancies that may occur in this classification and in this division. Eligibility pools remain valid for 12 months from the posting date or until the list is exhausted at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties

All employees are expected to model and apply our equity and social justice shared values behaviors and practices. As the Transit Radio and Communication Systems Specialist-Leadyou will also:

  • Coordinate the work of staff engaged in a variety of repair remodel and construction projects; assign and monitor work; advise staff when their work is deficient or in violation of established regulations and procedures.
  • Provide feedback to higher-level staff on employee and teamwork performance as well as any behavioral and attendance issues; recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and in proper working order.
  • Maintain records of preventive maintenance and calibrations performed repairs completed time worked and materials used; enter and extract data using automated systems.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

To be considered eligible for this role applicants must possess these MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a current King County Metro Transit Facilities employee in the class of Transit Radio & Communication Systems Specialist who has two (2) years of experience in the classification or who have two (2) years of similar experience.

The most competitive applicants will possess these DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the principles of electrical and electronics theory.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the installation of electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of circuit design and analysis.
  • Knowledge and skilled use of the tools calibration and diagnostic equipment used in the maintenance and installation of electronic communication and related systems.
  • Knowledge of FCC standards rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safe moving and lifting practices occupational hazards and safety requirements.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of workload planning and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of applicable service standards operating policies and regulations.
  • Skill in planning assigning balancing and checking work.
  • Skill in training and providing technical assistance.
  • Ability to work during adverse weather events and emergencies.
  • Ability to work shifts on nights weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse. cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications such as Microsoft Office suite.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • A valid Washington State drivers license is required and an acceptable driving record. If you possess an out of state drivers license you must obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire.
  • An FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL).

SELECTION PROCESS:

The first six (6) months of employment are served in a probationary capacity to provide an opportunity to confirm whether the position is a good match between the successful candidates interests and skills and the ability to perform the requirements of the job.

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION:

This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety-sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to the commencement of employment will be subject to random post-accident reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The work week for this position is normally 40 hours Tuesday through Friday from 0630-1700. Though scheduled days and times are subject to change. This position is not exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime eligible with prior supervisory approval.

WORK LOCATION:

The work location will be at Power Distribution Headquarters - 2255 Fourth Ave S Seattle Washington.

UNION STATUS:

This position is represented by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 587.
