SUMMARY: The College and Career Counselor provides a comprehensive guidance program for high school students supporting academic career and personal development. This role collaborates with administrators staff families and outside agencies to enhance student success while also supporting programs such as A and other educational initiatives. The counselor guides students through career exploration and postsecondary planning including developing Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) completing college and financial aid applications exploring workplace credentials and considering military enlistment. Performance is evaluated through tracking student outcomes and program metrics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
- Provides support services for students in the areas of academic programs team teaching school rules and other matters.
- Coordinates student development and progress of 4-year educational plans for individualized college and career readiness planning.
- Provides information on vocational-technical training availability.
- Provide information on college and vocational-technical application processes.
- Consults with teachers to facilitate College and Career Readiness.
- Responsible for student career guidance.
- Provides Senior Bulletin and scholarship information for students and parents through announcements the districts website and local news media.
- Coordinate Senior Awards Assembly.
- Counsels groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans.
- Coordinates the College Night and Financial Planning Event for students/parents
- Implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
- Support the academic career and social-emotional development of students.
- Assists students in managing emotions and applying interpersonal skills.
- Assists students in applying academic achievement strategies planning and goal setting.
- Provides personal counseling for students and groups to help them learn greater self-understanding acceptance of responsibility and better decision-making skills.
- Provides group counseling for interaction communication and support skill development.
- Collaborates with administrators staff students and families for student success.
- Responds to crisis situations when appropriate.
- Monitor and document student progress related to key performance data metrics.
- Refine and expand Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for all high school students that align with coursework and activities that help achieve personal career goals postsecondary planning and individual pathway options.
- Ensure that all seniors progress through each stage of the financial aid process from FAFSA completion through verification.
- Understand and help students navigate each step of the college application process including housing applications scholarship applications and college orientation.
- Use case-management strategies to increase postsecondary application FAFSA completion and postsecondary planning and attainment for district high school students.
- Connect high school students to needed internal and external resources to aid their success and goal attainment.
- Work closely with other high school counselors to ensure a smooth transition to postsecondary success for high school students.
- Uphold Missouri School Counselors ethical standards.
- Upholds the value and standards of the Chillicothe School District promoting a strong culture of safety and security.
- Observes all policies rules and regulations of the Board of Education as stated in the Board of Education policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students in all areas as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master of Education Degree in Counseling; Master of Science Degree in Counseling
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Possess a valid State of Missouri Counselor Teaching Certificate.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
FUNDING: This position is partially funded by the MO Career Advising Grant. Continued employment at 1.0 FTE is strictly contingent upon continued grant funding; upon expiration of said grant the position will revert to 0.5 FTE
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month employee. Some areas may require an extended contract. Salary is to be established by the Board of Education.
