The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a motivated technically strong and resultsoriented Technical Officer Neglected Tropical Diseases to support Member States in the prevention control and elimination of priority neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the Region of the Americas.
Under the general supervision of the Director Department of Communicable Diseases Prevention Control and Elimination (CDE) and the direct supervision of the Advisor Neglected Infectious Diseases the selected candidate will contribute to regional and country efforts aimed at achieving elimination targets for neglected tropical diseases by 2030.
The incumbent will:
Provide technical cooperation to Member States in the development implementation monitoring and evaluation of strategies plans and programs for the prevention control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases.
Support the planning and implementation of integrated national action plans including mass drug administration campaigns surveillance activities and transmission assessment surveys.
Collaborate in the preparation of technical documents guidelines advocacy materials progress reports and situation analyses related to neglected tropical diseases.
Strengthen interprogrammatic and intersectoral collaboration within PAHO and with external partners to enhance sustainable and costeffective disease elimination efforts.
Contribute to capacitybuilding activities including training workshops regional forums and virtual collaboration platforms.
Support research knowledge generation and dissemination through scientific articles policy documents and technical reports.

What is required for this position
Education
Essential: A university degree in a health science related to the functions of the post from a recognized university.
Desirable: A masters degree in public health or epidemiology with emphasis on neglected tropical diseases would be an asset.
Essential: Seven years of combined national and international experience working in epidemiology and public health and in the implementation of NTD health projects or health research and data analysis.
Desirable: Experience in Neglected Tropical Diseases surveillance prevention control and elimination in Latin America and the Caribbean would be an asset.
Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French would be an asset.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word Excel PowerPoint SharePoint and Outlook. Proficiency with software for mapping GIS and/or statistical analysis software is required. Knowledge of other software programs such as SAS SPSS Epidat Epinfo Stata and Tableau will be an asset.

Theoretical and practical knowledge of epidemiology and public health approaches for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases.
Ability to plan implement monitor and evaluate public health programs and projects at national and regional levels.
Experience in data collection analysis interpretation and use of epidemiological information for decisionmaking.
Strong analytical organizational and project management skills.
Ability to draft highquality technical documents reports and scientific or policyoriented materials.
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
Duration of Contract
This is an initial 11-month assignment with possibility of extensions for up to 24 months subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
