The Opportunity Senior Water Resources Engineer
WaterSMART Solutions A Hazen Company is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Calgary Alberta office. This seniorlevel role will lead and support a wide range of water resource projects from early planning and feasibility through detailed design construction and operational support.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical and project management leader working directly with water resource clients collaborating with multidisciplinary teams mentoring junior staff and contributing to business development efforts across Alberta and Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Support growth and development of the water resources practice with a focus on infrastructure and/or heavy civil projects.
- Lead projects and interface with clients through all project phases from business and client development through project execution acting as a trusted advisor.
- Provide technical leadership and closely collaborate with global technical leaders to bring the best in practice innovation and depth to Canadian projects.
- Prepare reports memoranda and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences including at conferences and seminars.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering (preferably Civil or Environmental); Masters degree an asset
- Professional Engineer (.) licensed in Alberta or eligible for registration
- Legally able to work in Canada
- 15 years of experiencein water resources engineering and project management
- Demonstratedexperience with water infrastructure projects (including dams reservoirs intakes or conveyance including development of standards and specifications design and project execution) and strategic water resources planning
- Strong familiarity with water resources in the Alberta context including the existing governance and regulatory frameworks for water management
- Proven experience in client and project development
- Excellent communication facilitation and stakeholder engagement interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in civil engineering related to the design and construction of dams levees hydropower or large conveyance infrastructure preferred
- Strong understanding of the technical aspects of hydrology hydraulics water quality and water resources planning a significant asset
- Exposure to a broad range of practices and project types including industrial water and wastewater watershed planning strategy and policy and integrated water resources
- Experience in water infrastructure operations would be considered an asset
- An understanding of water use and management concepts in Alberta (e.g. supply demand and water supply risk management principles for industrial agricultural and municipal uses)
