The Opportunity
Reporting to the Program Director DIANA the Strategic Market Analyst is responsible for building and maintaining a current practical understanding of the Canadian and allied defence and security ecosystem in support of COVEs defence-focused programming including NATO DIANA related activities.
This role provides dedicated analytical and market intelligence support mapping key stakeholders partnerships and pathways across government industry academia and innovation programs. The Strategic Market Analyst tracks policy developments procurement signals and major defence engagements translating this information into actionable insights for innovators program staff and curriculum development.
The Strategic Market Analyst works closely with internal teams external partners and defence stakeholders to strengthen connections between emerging technologies and real-world defence and security pathways.
What Youll Do:
- Build and maintain a current practical understanding of the Canadian and allied defence and security ecosystem including key stakeholders partners and innovation pathways.
- Map relationships across government industry academia and innovation programs identifying collaboration patterns gaps and emerging opportunities.
- Monitor defence and security policy developments procurement signals and major engagements assessing implications for DIANA innovators and program delivery.
- Provide analytical briefings research summaries ecosystem insights and market intelligence to support curriculum development program planning and innovator engagement.
- Strengthen connections between innovators and real-world defence stakeholders by translating ecosystem knowledge into actionable pathways and opportunities.
- Contribute research and content to COVE project proposals and support funding acquisition efforts.
- Provide support for presenting project updates and outcomes to stakeholders and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with COVEs policies and procedures including human resources safety and operational standards.
- Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the success and growth of COVEs programs and strategic initiatives.
- Occasional travel as required.
What You Bring:
- Post-secondary education (Masters Bachelors or College Diploma) in Political Science International Relations Public Policy Business Economics Engineering or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years experience in research analysis policy market intelligence or ecosystem mapping roles preferably related to defence security innovation or government programs.
- Strong understanding of or demonstrated ability to rapidly learn and understand the Canadian and allied defence and security ecosystem including key stakeholders and innovation pathways.
- Proven analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize policy market and ecosystem information into clear actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief diverse audiences and translate complex topics for non-specialists.
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong analytical problem-solving presentation and facilitation skills.
- Experience writing business cases completing cost-benefit analyses or other financial/budgeting skills.
Additional Assets:
- Demonstrated experience in innovation defence or defence procurement.
- Experience with marine/ocean sector programs.
- Experience in cyber/AI ecosystem.
- Familiarity with any allied defence ecosystems (NATO FVEY etc).
