About the Role:
An outstanding opportunity exists for an experienced Family Lawyer (5 years PAE) to lead and shape a growing Family Law Department within a well-established regional firm.
This is a true leadership role offering autonomy influence and long-term career progression. You will take ownership of the department s direction manage a diverse and often complex caseload mentor junior practitioners and play a key role in strategic growth.
The position involves regular appearances in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia advising on sophisticated family law matters and ensuring the delivery of high-quality client-focused outcomes. You will have the platform to build your professional reputation while contributing meaningfully to the firm s continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing the Family Law Department including mentoring and supervising junior lawyers and support staff
- Providing strategic commercially aware and solution-focused advice on divorce separation property settlements parenting disputes and financial agreements
- Preparing and reviewing complex legal documentation including parenting plans consent orders and binding financial agreements
- Representing clients in mediations interim hearings final hearings and trials
- Regularly briefing and collaborating with counsel
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships through empathetic practical guidance
- Contributing to business development and strategic growth of the department
- Collaborating with colleagues across practice areas to deliver seamless client outcomes
- Staying up to date with legislative developments and evolving family law jurisprudence
What We re Looking For:
- Minimum 5 years post-admission experience in Family Law
- Strong technical understanding of family law principles court procedures and dispute resolution processes
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capability
- Excellent advocacy negotiation and courtroom experience
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to deliver clear empathetic and practical advice
- A proactive commercially aware mindset with the ability to manage matters autonomously
- A collaborative approach and commitment to team success
- Admission to practice as a solicitor in Victoria with a current practising certificate
