This position is 100% funded by Strengthening Community College #5 grant from the Department of Labor (DOL)(Award # 25A60CC0000) for four years. The college intends to continue funding after the grant lapses.

Purpose of Position:

This 12-month faculty position is pivotal in sculpting the trajectory of the Little Priest Tribal Colleges new Carpentry program. The successful candidate will lead this highly visible role by engaging in program assessment program reviews curriculum development student recruitment and academic partnership with fellow faculty and the College administration the carpentry instructor will define objectives for enhancing refining and strengthening the Carpentry curriculum and co-curricular activities. The successful candidate will be able to teach 15-16 semester credit hours of carpentry courses including labs each semester. Summer teaching and duties required. An overload of credit hours is a possibility with this program and will be compensated accordingly.

This role is not just about teaching; its about building the foundation for a sustainable and hands-on educational experience for our new Carpentry program. The Carpentry instructor will help students foster skills to empower them for future trade employment and entrepreneurial ventures.

Job Responsibilities:

This faculty position at Little Priest Tribal College will work in tandem with college administration to develop a robust strategy for recruiting enrolling and retaining students for the Carpentry program. The role involves fostering relationships with local construction entities tradespeople and unions to expand hands-on learning opportunities including apprenticeships and internships.

Communication will be key and the carpentry faculty member will engage regularly with students faculty staff and external stakeholders to promote the program and its unique facilities. The Carpentry faculty members will stay abreast of carpentry trends to shape the curriculum incorporating modern construction methods sustainability and safety.

The position entails advising students developing curriculum assessing and reviewing programs and participating in college committee work. The ideal candidate must excel in teaching carpentry demonstrate enthusiasm for student success and make use of the new carpentry building to enhance the student learning experience. Additional duties include maintaining the workshop managing tools and inventory and procuring necessary materials and equipment to meet educational and safety standards.

The Carpentry Instructor should coordinate with the Project Manager to complete all reports to DOL and other agencies as required.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum Credentials for Teaching CTE Courses:

  • Minimum Academic and Professional Experience Requirements
    • Option 1: Possess at least an associate degree in the CTE field of instruction along with a minimum of three years of full-time professional tested experience in that area.
    • Option 2: Possess five years of full-time professional tested work experience in the CTE field of instruction.

  • Registration Certification and Licensing
    • CTE instructors must be registered certified or licensed in their respective occupational areas if the state mandates such credentials.
    • Instructors must possess the appropriate registration certification or licenses for the specific occupational area they are teaching.

  • Professional Licensing Standards
    • Instructors who currently work in an occupational area must maintain a current professional license in the CTE field they are teaching.
    • Retired instructors must submit documentation demonstrating their consistent maintenance of professional licensure throughout their career.
  • Obtain or willing to obtain OSHA-10 card.
  • Able to lift at least 60 pounds.
  • Able to climb a ladder to a height of 20.

Preferred:

  • State registered building contractor.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Organized and forward thinking while managing several students in a work environment.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Can use a variety of techniques in lecturing in a classroom.
  • Can effectively demonstrate techniques and procedures.
  • Can manage a classroom or shop with several students.
  • Can assess students skills as they are demonstrating.
  • Can produce assessment questions to evaluate students.
