Logistics Manager Automotive (Permanent) Sandton
A well-established organisation in the automotive industry is seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to oversee the efficient distribution of vehicles and automotive parts across the supply chain.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing logistics operations coordinating transportation and warehousing activities ensuring regulatory compliance and optimising distribution networks to support operational efficiency and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics and Distribution Strategy
- Develop and implement distribution strategies to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Optimise inventory levels to meet dealership and customer demand while minimising holding costs.
- Oversee transportation and warehousing operations to ensure efficient supply chain flow.
- Ensure compliance with import regulations customs requirements and trade policies.
- Manage FIFO inventory allocation and monitor ageing stock.
Cost and Financial Management
- Develop and manage the logistics and distribution budget.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimisation and operational efficiency across logistics processes.
- Minimise damages losses and inefficiencies within the supply chain.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor performance of distribution centres and logistics partners.
- Implement and maintain Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for accurate inventory tracking.
- Conduct regular inventory and stock audits.
- Ensure proper storage and handling procedures to maintain product quality standards.
- Develop contingency plans to manage supply chain disruptions and operational risks.
Supplier and Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with transport providers suppliers and third-party logistics partners (3PL).
- Manage service level agreements (SLAs) and performance metrics with logistics providers.
- Collaborate with dealerships and retail partners to streamline order fulfilment and delivery processes.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing logistics and distribution team.
- Provide training and support to drive operational efficiency.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations transportation laws and industry standards.
- Implement security protocols for vehicle distribution.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to company policies and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management Logistics Management Procurement Business Administration or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in logistics supply chain or automotive distribution.
- Proven experience in optimising distribution networks and logistics operations.
- Experience managing third-party logistics providers and vehicle warehousing operations.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of automotive import warehousing and distribution operations.
- Knowledge of customs regulations trade compliance and logistics legislation.
- Experience working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and logistics technologies.
- Strong data analysis decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Effective leadership communication and stakeholder management abilities.
