Part-Time Hourly

This position offers up to 12.5 hours per week max 50 hours per month.

Founded in August of 2011 by the Grimm Family Education Foundation GPS is committed to serving the Kern County community through high-quality public education. GPS currently operates two TK-8 schools Grow Academy Arvin and Grow Academy Shafter serving more than 1600 students. With continued growth in mind GPS plans to open two additional schools expanding its reach to a total of 3200 students.

Job Summary:

The College & Career Middle School Success Coach provides one-on-one academic mentoring career exploration and early postsecondary planning support to middle school students. Serving as mentor the Success Coach builds strong relationships with students to foster academic accountability goal-setting and early awareness of college and career pathways.

This role supports Grow Public Schools commitment to building a strong college and career going culture beginning in middle school while partnering closely with school counselors teachers and external partners.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group academic mentoring to middle school students supporting positive academic habits and progress monitoring.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school site counselors to identify students needing targeted academic or developmental support.
  • Guide students in setting academic and personal goals building organizational planning and time-management skills.
  • Reinforce a strong college- and career-going culture across campus.
  • Support the planning and coordination of college and career events workshops field trips and career fairs.
  • Attend and support College & Career workshops and events including occasional evenings on site.
  • Lead or assist with school-based and virtual workshops as needed.
  • Draft and support communication materials such as newsletters flyers and social media content.
  • Work closely with the Director and school site counselors to align programming and services.
  • Participate in required meetings/trainings and coordination activities.
  • Track student participation progress and outcomes using provided tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of College & Career programming.

Required Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word) and Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Slides).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Availability to work on-site school with occasional hours for events/workshops after-school and/or evenings/weekends.
  • Experience working with middle school or secondary students in mentoring tutoring education youth development or college access roles or Interest or background in college and career readiness postsecondary planning or youth advocacy preferred.
  • An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with counselors teachers and community partners.
  • Strong organizational written and verbal communication skills.
  • An eager flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative and going the extra mile for students.
  • A self-starter with an exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management.
  • Enrolled in an AA or BA program (minimum 30 credit hours completed) OR recent college graduate (preferred).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
