Nature of Work
Under some supervision performs professional duties related to the districts technology and innovation program. The Technology and Innovation Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Technology and Innovation with the development implementation operation monitoring and evaluation of the technology program for the school system. The employee works closely with the Director of Technology and Innovation to then collaborate with other staff within the district on how to include technology applications as an integral part of the total instructional program. Approximately seventy (70) percent of the position will be spent serving one specific grade band and approximately thirty (30) percent of the position will be spent on fulfilling other department responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the Technology and Innovation Department liaison to one grade band (Elementary school K-5 Middle School 6-8 or High School 9-12). This includes the following responsibilities:
- Works with staff to plan develop and implement staff development activities to address the North Carolina Digital Teaching and Learning Standards and the Digital Learning Competencies for Educators and for the use of technology and various procured platforms
- Address tickets escalated from a third party contracted Tech Support help desk to assists students parents and staff with troubleshooting
- Hold webinars (virtual) and/or in person workshops for students and parents on tips and tricks for acquired platforms laptop use the NC Cyber Academy Technology Responsible Use Policy and the NC Cyber Academy Technology Acceptable Use Policy.
- Develop and deploy student training on Internet Safety and Social Media Literacy (for compliance to HB 959 and CIPA).
- Serve as the Generative AI lead for the grade band assigned to include:
- Being the point of contact for grade band staff on Generative AI
- Creating materials for students and parents on Generative AI
- Hold trainings for staff parents and students related to Generative AI
- Attending NCDPI Generative AI trainings to stay up to date on advancements and current best practices
- Attend the monthly in person grade band meeting at the NC Cyber Academy Durham Office or special events where a technology staff member is needed
- Fulfill the following department related duties:
- Assist in the implementation of system and the building-level technology plans in accordance with the North Carolina Digital Teaching and Learning Standards the Childrens Internet Protection Act (CIPA) the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) the NCDPI K-12 Cybersecurity Program and other state or federal recommendations and guidelines.
- Assists the Director of Technology and Innovation with the planning design and management of all infrastructure networking and technology installations and services standard district software and the technical support of these systems.
- Plans and coordinates the implementation of special activities to promote technology.
- Receives technology requests works with staff to integrate technology initiatives determine scope of projects and appropriateness and determine staffing system training and budgeting requirements.
- Conducts ongoing evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the technology.
- Maintains records reports and inventories in accordance with local state and federal policies.
- Assist with the maintenance and annual updates of state testing laptops and hotspots
- Serve on cross functional teams to support a variety of district initiatives
- Attend vendor specific training to stay up to date on available tools resources and offerings.
- At least one of the following:
- Maintain a comprehensive database of vendors contracts and renewal dates.
- Utilize Classlink Roster Server and Classlink OneSync to provision student accounts and class rosters to third party tools and systems. Build and run csv files for manual uploads to platforms where automatic rostering is not available
- Maintain and roster platform accounts for parents and learning coaches in Canvas Infinite Campus and ParentSquare
- Provision new hire accounts and assign privileges assisting the Human Resources department with new staff onboarding
- Utilize python Canvas API Class for Zoom API Zoom API SQL and other resources to write scripts for custom integrations (this would be approximately ten percent of the position)
- Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Bachelors Degree in a related field. Teaching experience preferred. Must have considerable knowledge of computers and related technologies and experience delivering high quality professional development opportunities for a wide variety of end users.
At least 2 years of experience working with SQL APIs JavaScript and/or Python a plus.
Knowledge and Responsibilities
This employee will need to have considerable knowledge of or quickly become proficient on:
- the appropriate uses of technology for instruction and the requirements of the North Carolina Digital Teaching and Learning Standards the Childrens Internet Protection Act (CIPA) the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the NCDPI K-12 Cybersecurity Program.
- computer hardware and common software applications.
- the current literature trends methods and developments in the area of technology in education.
- the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal state and local laws rules and regulations.
This employee will need to have the ability to:
- train educators in the use of hardware and software to meet the technology competencies necessary for educators.
- plan develop implement and evaluate large programs including the development of long term goals and objectives and making recommendations for improvements.
- evaluate requests for changes and/or updates to current technology platforms tools and devices
- deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
- prepare correspondence reports forms evaluations policies etc. using prescribed formats.
