Position Description
In preparation for the June 2 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of 1402 Logic and Accuracy Voting Equipment Proofer. These positions will support the Polling Place Operations Division with various election tasks including validating monitoring and tracking reports generated by voting equipment. The role primarily involves working at the Departments warehouse located at Pier 31.
In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1402 job code the person in this position will have the following tasks:
- Proofread voting equipment reports to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Organize file and maintain election-related reports documents and records in both physical and electronic formats ensuring accessibility and compliance with departmental standards.
- Validate monitor and track operational and inventory reports maintaining accurate logs and updating supervisors on discrepancies or concerns.
- Handle voting equipment including labeling tagging cleaning organizing and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds in accordance with safety procedures.
- Scan barcodes prepare forms labels and other identification materials for ballots equipment and election supplies to ensure proper tracking and documentation.
- Provide general clerical support including data entry copying distributing materials and assisting staff with administrative tasks.
- Assist in warehouse operations including inventory management assembly of supply kits sorting staging and organization of election materials and equipment.
- Support ballot processing and related tasks at City Hall including sorting preparation and clerical assistance as needed.
- Assist with setup staging and logistics of election equipment and supplies at field sites polling places and at City Hall.
- Operate basic warehouse tools and equipment and assist with loading/unloading materials as required while following established safety guidelines.
- Assist with post-election activities including organizing counting and preparing ballots and supplies for storage or redistribution.
- Perform other election-related duties as assigned to support smooth operations across multiple locations including City Hall warehouse facilities and polling places throughout San Francisco.
Position Schedule Requirements and Work Location
This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. For more information on the City and County of San Francisco benefit policies refer to the Employee Handbook available at hours will vary according to the demands of the election cycle ranging between 20 and 40 hours per week. While most work is expected to be completed during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) adjustments may be necessary to meet operational requirements. Employees must be available to work overtime during the week and on weekends as needed. Overtime will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the hourly rate.
This is a seasonal position with a tentative start date of April 20 2026. The tentative assignment end date for this position is June 30 2026 or earlier. The exact start and end dates for this position will be based on the operational needs of the Department.
Work is generally performed in the warehouse which has limited temperature control but may also require offsite duties. Workers may be exposed to varying temperatures loud noises dust fumes and/or odors.
Position Salary: $28.975 to $35.2125 hourly
$60268 to $73242 annually
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
These minimum qualifications establish the education training experience special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification.
Experience:
Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents filing use of office equipment public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR
Substitution:
Any one of the following may substitute for the required experience:
- Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
- Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
- Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with operating voting equipment proofing voting system reports inventory tracking with scanning equipment and data entry.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions focus on tasks multitask adapt to schedule changes and operate office equipment including handheld scanners and computers.
