Job Description
The Simulation Technology Specialist supports the use of instructional and simulation technology within the Simulation Center including facilitating curriculum delivery with appropriate instructional simulation and AV technology. This position reviews the systems equipment and supply needs for simulation maintains simulators and task trainers and performs technical evaluation installation maintenance and support of computer systems software.
The Simulation Technology Specialist will support Simulation Center educators and SON Faculty in the delivery of instructional activities. This position reports to the Director of Simulation.
Key Responsibilities:
Simulation Support (70%):
- Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of The Simulation Center SON Faculty and Simulation Center colleagues to program and operate appropriate simulation technologies and systems to create a realistic and safe environment to address SoN program goals and specifications while adhering to recognized simulation standards.
- Assists instructors and/or faculty with their delivery of curriculum including onsite set up break down support for training to include manikin/standardized participant scenarios.
- Programs operates and maintains computer-based and AV video recording systems SimIQ or comparable system for use in instructional recording and debriefing sessions while training and supporting others in its use.
- Supports/assists in programming of computer-based components of standardized participant task trainer moulage high-fidelity manikin and virtual screen-based trainings to create a realistic simulated healthcare setting.
- Remains current with research and trends in health sciences simulation learning science and instructional technologies.
- The Simulation Technology Specialist will additionally support tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals
Lab Maintenance (20%)
- Provides general maintenance and operation of simulation equipment and related simulation equipment including technical systems troubleshooting and system updates as needed.
- Participate in the creation or modification of computer programs related to simulation operating systems and provides detailed requirements analysis and recommendations for systems software and hardware acquisitions and/or upgrades.
- Set up and take down of equipment lab preparation and safety inspections as needed for instructional activities.
- Oversees and delegates to student workers for routine lab operations.
- Develops and maintains supply and equipment inventory database as needed for simulation-based learning experiences.
- Adheres to all protocols set in place by the Director and Assistant Director of Simulation
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
Minumum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in education technology health sciences and/or other related field
- Two to three years of experience with simulation and learning technology instructional design and systems analysis techniques and procedures to assist with the troubleshooting and maintenance of technical operating systems.
Additional Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to consult and interact with a wide range of colleagues faculty and stakeholders. Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to present instructional content in a group setting. Maintaining positive working relationships with a professional demeanor and strong customer service focus is required.
- Experience working in a diverse setting with persons from different racial ethnic socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds along with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive thinking and application in the work environment.
- Ability to work independently exercise good judgement prioritize work and use initiative. Demonstrated effective communication/interpersonal skills. Should be comfortable in a collaborative shared leadership environment.
- Devise methods and processes to meet new and unique systems and technology-related requirements for simulation-based learning for the SoN.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage projects to meet multiple deadlines with adequate attention to quality project/task follow-through dependability and detail. Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to first identify and prioritize issues and then design and implement solutions in a collaborative approach.
- This is an overtime-exempt non-union position under the Professional Staff rules and standards of the University of Washington and may require some evening and weekend hours to accommodate scheduled labs and special events within the Simulation Center.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Knowledge and understanding of proper lab procedures
Desired Qualifications:
- Masters degree in education technology health science and/or a related field
- Prior experience in health care training and/or instruction.
- Prior experience in a higher education environment
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) BLS Certification
