Job Summary

Job Title: Careers Coordinator

Reporting To: Assistant Headteacher / Deputy Headteacher

Contract Type: Full-Time Permanent

Location: Watford Hertfordshire

Salary: Competitive dependent on experience (in line with school support staff pay scale)


Purpose of the Role

The Careers Coordinator is responsible for leading developing and managing the schools careers education information advice and guidance (CEIAG) programme. The postholder will ensure that all students receive high-quality impartial careers guidance that supports informed decision-making and successful progression into further education apprenticeships or employment.

The role includes ensuring compliance with statutory guidance meeting the Gatsby Benchmarks and building strong partnerships with employers colleges universities and training providers.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Compliance

  • Develop implement and review the whole-school careers programme in line with statutory guidance and the Gatsby Benchmarks.

  • Maintain and publish the schools Careers Policy and Careers Programme on the school website.

  • Lead on achieving and maintaining quality awards (e.g. Quality in Careers Standard if applicable).

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of careers provision using data and student voice.

  • Produce reports for Senior Leadership Team and Governors on careers provision and outcomes.


Careers Education & Student Support

  • Coordinate and deliver careers education activities across Key Stages 35.

  • Provide impartial careers guidance to students supporting progression pathways.

  • Organise one-to-one guidance interviews (where qualified) or coordinate external careers advisers.

  • Support students with applications to Sixth Form FE colleges universities apprenticeships and employment.

  • Maintain accurate records of student destinations and progression data.


Employer & Partnership Engagement

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers training providers and higher education institutions.

  • Organise careers fairs employer talks mock interviews and workplace visits.

  • Coordinate work experience placements and ensure safeguarding and risk assessments are completed.

  • Promote apprenticeships vocational routes and alternative pathways alongside academic routes.


Events & Enrichment

  • Plan and coordinate key events such as Careers Week Higher Education evenings and Post-16/18 Information Evenings.

  • Support option choices processes and transition activities.

  • Ensure students have access to up-to-date labour market information (LMI).


Administration & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate student records relating to careers guidance and work experience.

  • Track and report on NEET (Not in Education Employment or Training) data.

  • Manage budgets allocated to careers provision efficiently.

  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed in all employer engagement activities.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working within education youth services or careers guidance.

  • Strong organisational and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain professional partnerships.

  • Good understanding of post-16 and post-18 pathways including apprenticeships and university routes.

  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Desirable

  • Level 6 Careers Guidance Qualification (or working towards).

  • Experience coordinating work experience programmes.

  • Knowledge of Gatsby Benchmarks and statutory careers guidance.

  • Experience using school MIS systems and destination tracking software.
