Job Summary

Under general supervision the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Coordinator will report to the VDC Lead within the Infrastructure Information Management (IIM) Section and will support the development and implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and VDC solutions across the Airport through active project engagement and data collection efforts. The position works with project teams throughout all phases of design and construction to support the collection verification and integration of project deliverables; process field-captured data into actionable insights; and provide end-user training and stakeholder engagement to drive the adoption and continuous optimization of BIM and VDC solutions.

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Design Coordination and Model Verification

  • Engagement with multi-discipline project teams and coordination of all construction projects across all phases of design and construction.
  • Participate in the incremental collection and coordination of design and construction documentations by maintaining correspondence and proactive communication with project teams.
  • Verify 3D models CAD drawings and digital construction documents for accuracy completeness and conformance with Airports virtual design and construction standards.

Digital Design Documentation and Planning

  • Assist in the review of BIM Execution Plans (BEP/BIMxP) and digital design specifications for capital construction projects.
  • Participate in the development coordination and maintenance of the SFO Dynamic Digital Twin representing Airport assets and infrastructure.

Project File Management and Coordination

  • Manage and refine the Airports digital project file structure using Autodesk Construction Cloud establishing protocols for construction document management version control and drawing coordination utilizing industry standards as a framework.
  • Support design teams with file access protocols maintaining compliance with Airport VDC standards and file naming conventions for efficient project coordination.

Standards Development

  • Prepare and implement airport-wide BIM and VDC standards covering 3D architectural models CAD drawings and construction document deliverables.
  • Establish clear digital deliverable requirements to ensure design consistency and coordination across all design disciplines.
  • Support standardization of project deliverables to enable effective integration with enterprise Facilities Management and GIS.

Field Verification and Reality Capture

  • Support the collection and integration of field survey data (e.g. laser scanning photogrammetry) into BIM models for as-built conditions.
  • Explore ways to leverage BIM and related data to produce visualizations dashboards and insights that enhance stakeholder decision-making and operational efficiency.

Drawing Production Support and Team Training

  • Document project progress design coordination procedures and identify opportunities for improvement in digital construction documentation.
  • Develop and deliver technical guides standards documentation and training to support drawing production workflows and consistent application of BIM coordination practices across project teams.
  • Provide technical assistance to Airport design and construction staff consultant engineers and contractors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

1.  Education:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Architecture/Landscape Architecture or an architecture/landscape architecture related field (such as Environmental Design or Interior Architecture) from an accredited college or university.

2.  Experience:

Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the architectural/landscape architectural field including architectural/landscape architectural design architectural/landscape architectural detailing construction documents programming preliminary cost budgeting specification coordination and review and construction administration all under the direction of a licensed architect/landscape architect.

3.  License and Certification:

Possession of a valid California drivers license.

Substitution:

A professional degree in Architecture/Landscape Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture/Landscape Architecture or Master of Architecture/Landscape Architecture from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required education.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

  • Proficiency with Revit AutoCAD Dynamo Autodesk Construction Cloud and the Autodesk AEC ecosystem.
  • Experience with 3D model development field data integration and digital construction document management.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills working with design professionals consultant engineers and contractors.
  • Experience managing digital deliverables for large-scale campus-wide or aviation infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of design and construction administration phases with familiarity of BIM standards (ISO-19650/NBIMs v4).

Selection Procedures: 
After application submission candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process which includes the following:

Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire (BCQ) (Weight: 100%)

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire. The Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to measure the knowledge skills and abilities required for this position.  All candidates responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire are subject to verification.  All relevant experience education and/or training must be included in the responses in order to be reviewed in the rating process.

A passing score on the Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire must be achieved in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List.  Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance
Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check including FBI fingerprints and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1 every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.

Customs Clearance
Candidates for employment with San Francisco International Airport require that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the San Francisco Airport U.S. Customs Security Area. An application for a U.S. Customs Access Seal may be   submitted to Customs ONLY after employment has commenced. Employment in this position requires that the incumbent submit an application for successfully acquire and maintain a Customs Access Seal. Per Civil Service Commission Rule 110.9.1 every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for this examination. Failure to acquire or maintain customs access a requirement for this position may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission. Customs Access Seal requirements and procedures are located in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 19 Part 122 Sections 181 or 189.

Eligible List/Score Report: 

A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only.  An examination score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six (6) months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

Certification:

The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of Three (3) pending the Unions approval for an expansion rule.  The hiring department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures prior to making final hiring decisions.
