TITLE: Special Education Resource Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal

COMPENSATION: Teacher New Hire Placement Salary Schedule plus $10000Hard-to-fillStipend plus up to $5350 teaching stipend

JOB DESCRIPTION: To create a flexible program favorable to learning and personal growth for the student in the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must obtain and maintain an active Arizona Department of Education Special Education Teacher certification
  • Must obtain and maintain an active Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Knowledge of special education laws procedures practices materials equipment and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability
  • Ability to assess needs develop and implement the IEP and evaluate outcomes in specialty
  • Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students staff and parents
  • May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint
  • Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct instruction based on students IEP and the Arizona State Standards.
  • Conduct appropriate academic evaluations; develop implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavioral individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers regarding student needs and progress. Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress and for compliance with district federal and state guidelines.
  • Participate in the MET process.
  • Plan conduct and/or participate in training activities and department meetings.
  • May be required to participate in students meetings that may occur beyond the staffs work assignment schedule.
  • Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
  • Maintain on-going communication (verbal and written) with parents of special education students through conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
  • Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development design and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • Consult with staff members regarding interventions and accommodations for students. Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student needs.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service professional development activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds such as boxes supplies etc. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office some travel to school sites meetings and professional development activities. Terms of Employment:

  • Full Time 40 hours/week Exempt
  • 10 Month Work Calendar (189 Work Calendar Days)
  • Earned Paid Sick Time (up to 5 days)
