Special Education Coordinator

Job Description

Reports To: Director of Special Education Executive Director of Student Support Services

Position Summary:

  • Assist the Director of Special Education with the coordination and administration of district-operated Special Education programs
  • Assist with the supervision and coordination of the District-provided classroom and ancillary services recommending changes and additions as needed
  • Keeps informed of all Federal and State legal requirements governing Special Education policies and procedures
  • Provide the district with technical assistance for the implementation of State and Federal Special Education rules and regulations
  • Facilitate professional development activities district-wide for both special education and general education staff
  • Provides technical assistance in and implements procedures for referral evaluation placement assignment and re-evaluation of students concerning the Special Education services program.
  • Serves as a resource to the principal evaluator of all special education personnel working in specific schools.
  • Develops and maintains complete and cumulative individual records of all children receiving special services or enrolled in special classes.
  • Assists with evaluating on an ongoing basis the total special education program curriculum procedures and individual students needs and achievements.
  • Consult with parents of students enrolled in the program.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development; for keeping current with the literature new research findings and improved techniques; for attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions.

Qualifications

Special Education Certification

  • Mild-Moderate; and/or
  • Severe-Profound
  • Minimum of at least 5 years of experience in teaching special education (preference will be given to those who have taught mild-moderate and severe-profound disabilities)

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary based on experience based on a 200-day contract
  • Insurance- health dental and vision paid for contract employee
  • 401K- 7% based on total compensation starting after 6 months of employment
  • 10 days PTO
