POSITION OVERVIEW
The newly-formed Integrated Studies Department at the Pacific Northwest College of Art at Willamette University seeks a dedicated college lecturer to join a service department that supports the General Education component of the BFA degree. Within Integrated Studies students take 100 and 200-level courses that explore topics within art history ecology history literature gender studies sociology and an array of other academic fields typically in an interdisciplinary format.
The Quantitative Studies lecturer will support core courses within general education anchored in quantitative reasoning which may include mathematics applied sciences statistics data literacy finance business or social science data-based research. Of particular interest to our community is the ethical philosophical and practical implications of AI-LLMs in creative work and contemporary culture. The successful candidate will possess both technical expertise and genuine understanding of the variety of capacities in which artists and designers can engage with quantitative reason in society and in their careers. This position requires commitment to making quantitative concepts accessible to students many of whom are visual learners.
Lecturers at PNCA are full-time benefits eligible 12-month 1.0 variable FTE employees. Lecturers may teach across several departments but are assigned a home department where their departmental service is organized and tracked. They have limited college-wide service.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Teaching & Mentorship
Teach the equivalent of 7 3-credit courses or equivalencies during the academic year.
Develop and maintain active syllabi and equivalent course sites within Canvas inaccordance with annual guidelines and timelines.
Maintain at least 3 office hours per week.
Participate in thesis panels present as guest artists in colleagues classrooms or othersharing of ones creative practice and expertise.
Supervise Independent Studies.
Participate in curriculum assessment and accreditation activities.
Departmental Service College Service
Participate regularly in departmental meetings and planning.
Assist with departmental assessment and curriculum work including collecting student work annual assessment review with peer faculty and curriculum development or improvement.
Manages administrative tasks related to departmental administration as assigned by the chair using university software platforms. Examples may include departmental electronic record keeping room scheduling or curriculum related data entry.
Attend Full-time faculty meetings and other annual pedagogy and training sessions such as: annual orientation in-service & professional developmentdays and annual strategic planning.
Collaborate with staff on student academic wellness and wellbeing including collaboration with Academic Success Accessible Education Health EducationInternational Office Career Design Student Affairs and Community Care & Inclusion staff. This includes active participation in the CARE case management process for students ofconcern.
Participate in admissions and recruitment activities such as Admitted Students DayNational Portfolio Day and online or in person family outreach sessions.
Participate in annual commencement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters level degree in relevant field of study
Applicants will be able to demonstrate pedagogical knowledge of their subject area and have at least 3 years (in semester equivalents) experience teaching at the collegiate level.
Experience teaching both in-person and via common online/digital learning platforms (e.g. Google Meet Zoom).
Applicants should be prepared to propose and teach interdisciplinary seminars connecting arts design and visual culture to mathematics data production financial business planning basic general accounting data analysis science and/or statistical methodologies
Applicants should have a track record of understanding and teaching related to AI/LLMs with a particular focus on creative work.
Proficiency with Google Suite and Canvas Learning Management system.

Salary: $60000
Typical Work Schedule & Location: This is a teaching position that is understood as a 12-month variable position with teaching duties that may be scheduled Monday through Friday 8am-9pm. Faculty will teach 7 courses annually between fall and spring semester. This position works within the PNCA faculty; however may occasionally be offered teaching assignments at our Salem campus based on curriculum demand.
