| POSITION SUMMARY |
Under the general direction of the Principal or designee the Middle School Teacher is responsible for planning delivering and assessing engaging instruction aligned with division curriculum and the Virginia Standards of Learning for grades 68. The teacher creates a structured supportive and developmentally responsive classroom environment that promotes academic achievement critical thinking and positive adolescent development. The Middle School Teacher contributes to student success through high-quality content-specific instruction collaboration with colleagues meaningful communication with families and adherence to School Board policies and applicable federal and state laws. The purpose of this position is to build a pool of certified candidates in a high-demand field in LCS who can: - Deliver rigorous standards-based instruction within assigned content area(s).

| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Plan and implement engaging standards-aligned lessons using research-based instructional strategies.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners including students with disabilities English learners and gifted students.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior and classroom routines.
- Foster a classroom culture that promotes equity respect and high expectations for all students.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams instructional staff and support personnel to improve student outcomes.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with families regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in professional learning communities and division professional development.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation in compliance with division state and federal requirements.
- Supervise students in classrooms hallways cafeterias playgrounds and during school activities as assigned.
- Support school improvement initiatives and division priorities.

| EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement in middle school education or subject specific endorsement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of middle school curriculum or subject-specific endorsement instructional strategies and assessment practices.
- Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred.
- Strong communication organization and collaboration skills.

- Supervises students in the classroom and during assigned duties.
- Provides direction and guidance to instructional assistants volunteers or student teachers as assigned.

| TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS |
- Reliable transportation is necessary
- Daily travel between schools LCS buildings and local areas may be required for professional development
- Minimal travel outside of the City of Lynchburg is required

| WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS |
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work may involve collaborative support across academic programs student services and operational functions and requires frequent standing sitting walking light lifting (up to 10 pounds) vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing reviewing and analyzing written or electronic data.
