- Must hold a valid Iowa teaching license including the K-12 English Language Learners (104) endorsement and the 5-12 English/Language Arts (120) endorsement (preferred)
JOB SUMMARY: The ESL/English Learner (EL) Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students whose primary language is not English. This position ensures equitable access to academic content while promoting language development in listening speaking reading and writing. The ESL Teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers administrators families and community partners to support student success.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide direct language instruction in the four domains: listening speaking reading and writing.
- Determine and implement appropriate instructional delivery models (push-in and/or pull-out) based on student data and needs.
- Develop individualized language goals aligned to proficiency levels.
- Provide instructional accommodations and content access points to ensure academic success.
- Support students with testing accommodations and provide EL teacher testing opportunities as appropriate.
- Translate or coordinate translated instructional materials as needed.
- Advocate for student needs and support college and career readiness connections.
- Identify eligible students in accordance with district ESL guidelines and the Lau Plan.
- Become certified and administer required language proficiency assessments for newly enrolled students.
- Assist with annual state English language proficiency testing.
- Maintain and analyze student assessment data to inform instructional decisions and individualized supports.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal EL program requirements.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and assessments.
- Provide entry points accommodations and instructional strategies for EL students.
- Share resources translation tools and technology supports with staff.
- Provide professional development support to teachers on best practices for serving English Learners.
- Attend grade-level meetings ESL PLCs district meetings and required committees.
- Support ESL tutors with resources and instructional guidance.
- Serve as a liaison between students families teachers counselors administrators and community agencies.
- Support effective school-to-home communication.
- Attend school-sponsored activities such as Back-to-School Night and Open House.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
