The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is a leading industry organization dedicated to the overall planning development marketing and management of the commercial port facilities within the Port of Prince Rupert.
PRPA is seeking a motivated eager-to-learn student to join the environment compliance team. The opportunity offers a hands-on learning opportunity with occasional support provided to the environmental stewardship and regulatory affairs teams. The student will assist environmental compliance staff with regulatory oversight tasks including site audits habitat project monitoring and permit compliance support for various port projects. This position will also include an opportunity to complete a research project supporting a PRPAs environmental program.
Summer student employment is for four months commencing May 4 2026 and ending August 28 2026 unless otherwise specified.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct regular monitoring and inspections of environmental habitat offsetting projects.
- Support habitat maintenance activities as required including maintenanceharvestingand transplanting of salt marsh plants.
- Assistwith audits of PRPA properties including vacant lots undeveloped areas and some commercial tenant locations.
- Support environmental data collection including stormwater monitoring program and sediment and erosion control measures inspections and maintenance.
- Support monitoring activities including water sampling acoustic and temperature monitoring biological material (guano) collection and wildlife observation.
- Participatein Bat emergence counts to fulfil SARA permit requirements.
- Complete one or more applied research projects related to topics including wildlife management impact assessment cumulative effects or climate change resilience.
- Assistwith meeting minutes data entry and record keeping.
- Provide general support to the Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Stewardship Teams as needed and when available.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in an undergraduate program related to environmental studies environmental planning natural resource management or similar.
- Proficiencyin Microsoft Office.
- Goodwritingand communication skills.
- Detail-oriented andorganized.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular working hours are Monday to Friday 7.5 hours/day with a 1-hour lunch break (unpaid).
- Work will be both in the field and in an office environment.
- This position may require occasional irregular work hours.
The hourly rate for PRPAs Summer Student positionis$29.00.
