Overview
Perfusion Assistants work in conjunction with Perfusionists in providing extracorporeal perfusion services and related procedures to a defined patient population utilizing the open heart pump during open heart surgery ECMO procedures for children requiring extracorporeal cardiopulmonary support for pulmonary or cardiac failure auto-transfusion services for intra-operative blood salvage to conserve banked blood usage and reduce exposure to transfusion related diseases. they also provide blood gas electrolyte glucose ROTEM and activated clotting time testing on-site. Perfusion assistants demonstrate clinical leadership by coordinating activities with surgeons anesthesiologists. They participate in performance improvement activities and clinical research.

Responsibilities
- Works in conjunction with the Perfusionist and anesthesiologist to provide optimal patient care during open heart procedures.
- Provides independent auto-transfusion services for intra-operative blood salvage/processing and homologous blood processing to conserve banked blood usage and reduce exposure to transfusion related disease during Orthopedic procedures and Liver Transplants. Works in conjunction with the Perfusionist to provide autotransfusion services during Cardiovascular Open Heart Procedures..
- Supervises OR laboratory to provide blood gas electrolyte hematocrit glucose and activated clotting time and ROTEM testing on-site for the CVOR and the General OR
- Participates in performance improvement activities and clinical research.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
- Associates degree or HS diploma or equivalent and
- 3-5 years experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelors degree
- Work related experience could include a lab technician respiratory therapist nurse the critical care setting.
- Autotransfusion certification Preferred

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $24.18/hr but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.
Remote Work/Work from Home
This position is not eligible to work remotely which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Childrens Mercy locations and may not work from home.
