Child Protection Intern

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS Division of Child Protection (DCP) investigates all allegations of child abuse and neglect that the city receives from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Each year the division investigates about 55000 reported cases. The division is comprised of approximately 3500 employees across the five boroughs at nineteen sites. Offices within DCP include Child Protective Borough Offices Emergency Childrens Services Special Investigations Family Preservation and Family Services. DCP is seeking 8 highly motivated and detail-oriented Child Protection Undergraduate Interns to join our team.

As a Child Protection Undergraduate Intern you will support DCP in day-to-day operations and contribute to the planning and execution of long-term projects aimed at community engagement. This internship will offer an excellent opportunity to gain exposure in various aspects of child protection for those interested in pursuing a career in the field of Child Protection. Additionally as a member of the 2026 ACS Summer Internship Program cohort you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops lunch and learns speaker events NYC government tours and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct outreach to community partners

- Support borough with in-house and outside community events

- Assist with Campaign Against Hunger food deliveries and distribution

- Assist with supply inventory required for supporting families

- Assist with maintaining office coverage filing important documents and phone coverage etc.

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain comprehensive knowledge and experience collaborating with community partners

- Develop skills in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes

- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
