Job Summary

Description

The Technology & Systems Analyst supports the Department of Molecular Pharmacology & Physiology by evaluating recommending and helping procure specialized hardware software and laboratory equipment; building configuring and maintaining technology used in departmental offices and research labs; and developing tools such as financial dashboards and other data-driven solutions to streamline administrative and scientific workflows. The role analyzes and resolves complex technical issues designs programs or queries to improve processes and applies fact-finding and systems knowledge to address both business and research needs. Responsibilities also include managing and updating department website providing training to faculty staff and students on equipment and software supporting the adoption of new technologies including AI-assisted data mining and offering guidance to support personnel needs while maintaining broad technical expertise to meet evolving departmental requirements.



Responsibilities
  • Analyzes current and proposed departmental/user hardware and software systems; develops and maintains complex systems within the unit.
  • Analyzes and solves problems related to complex computer applications and systems for faculty staff and/or students within the unit; provides a wide range of in-depth technical assistance and guidance to unit user support staff.
  • Writes various structured programs queries stored procedures and reports as required to support unit systems using appropriate current programming languages.
  • Uses established fact-finding procedures knowledge of pertinent work processes and procedures and familiarity with related programming practices system software and computer equipment to provide required analysis of business and/or scientific problems.
  • Oversee unit website programming and development maintenance and revisions including markup language program coding graphics development and web server administration.
  • Provides individual and/or group instruction and training to students faculty and/or staff on computer technologies.
  • Provides technical support for new technologies within the unit; may serve as project leader for unit-wide technology projects.
  • Reviews evaluates and recommends solutions for hardware and software acquisitions.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology equipment and/or systems; participates in professional development activities as appropriate.
  • May provide functional guidance and direction to lower graded staff or student assistants providing desktop support data integrity and reporting and server administration.
  • Performs miscellaneous information technology support duties as required to meet the needs of the unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science MIS or other field involving software and analytical training and one year of IT related work experience; or a Bachelors degree with no specific required field and two years of IT related work experience OR a Masters degree and one year of IT related work experience OR a combination of five years of IT related work experience and validated training. Preparation for a relevant IT certification is considered to be related training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Training and work experience in management information systems or related fields. Experience with both PCs and Macintosh computers.

A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required not to exceed:

  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelors degree;
  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a masters degree;
  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure certification or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
