Paralegal

Contract: fixed term contract 12 months

Working hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: From 42025

Location: London Exchange Tower (Hybrid)

Reporting to: Head of Legal Practice

About Us:

The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.

Our legal team advises and supports the Financial Ombudsman Service across a broad range of legal areas. We advise on legal issues relevant to the Financial Ombudsman Services casework as well as a wide range of other issues including information law employment public law and contracts. We also act for the FOS if we are challenged through the courts.

We are looking for a paralegal to join the team. You will work with the legal team to provide advice to the FOS on all legal and jurisdiction matters and help us build our legal knowledge.

The Financial Ombudsman Service is often at the cutting-edge of financial services law. As such the legal issues we face are complex and can be novel. Our jurisdiction has expanded over the last few years which means that we deal with a wider range of disputes and legal issues. The team works at pace and needs to be flexible to deal with a range of demands.

What Youll Do:

As a key member of the legal team you will support litigation assisting with tasks such as preparing case bundles drafting correspondence and reviewing evidence.

You will communicate complex legal matters clearly and accessiblywhether through written updates reports or verbal briefingsand will collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure consistent highquality support across both contentious and advisory matters. Working as part of a cohesive team you will contribute your insights participate actively in discussions and help maintain a collaborative solutionsfocused environment.

You will take responsibility for researching UK and European laws and regulations monitoring developments and summarising relevant changes for colleagues. Across all activities you will act as an engaged and proactive member of the team contributing fully to casework project work and broader organisational goals.

To be considered for this role youll need to show us that youve got the skills and capabilities necessary. Youll have to meet the following minimum criteria:

Minimum Criteria

A degree in any field of study
Successful completion of the Legal Practice Course or Bar Vocational Course/Bar Professional Training Course or successful completion of SQE 1 or equivalent
Recent experience in the regulatory financial services commercial or public sector or in private practice ideally focusing on litigation
