Malden Out-of-School Time Program
Adventure Summer Program - Teacher
Description:
The Malden Out-of-School Time (MOST) Program provides after school vacation and summer programs for the Malden Public Schools. Our programs follow the MPS calendar and the after school programs operate from school day dismissal until 5:30pm including early release days. Full day programs are offered during February and April school vacation weeks and during summer break. It is our mission to provide high quality affordable Out-of-School Time care to Malden students in grades K through 6.
The Summer Teacher works directly with students to ensure the supervision safety and
participation of students in all aspects of the full day program.
Responsibilities:
*The program dates and hours are June 29 2026 - July 31 2026 (Monday - Friday) from 8am - 4pm. There will be a mandatory orientation date and time to be determined.
*The description below is a general overview of the position but more duties may be assigned.
Pre Program Session
- Attend mandatory Summer Program Orientation and assist with program set up
- Orient new students assigned to your group during weekly sessions
- Review daily schedules activities and field trips (if applicable) with students during Group Meeting Time
- Review program policies and procedures regulations and expectations with students
- Set expectations for maintenance of all program supplies and materials
Daily Responsibilities
- Supervise students during all aspects of the full day program including breakfast lunch program activities and off-site field trips (if applicable)
- Ensure group arrives to scheduled activities on time
- Assist Specialists in clubs; model and participate in recreation and other group activities
- Manage student behavior and implement behavior management policy
- Implement student accommodations (if applicable)
- Participate in daily staff check-in meetings for student and program updates
- Plan activities for counselors choice free blocks and extended day program if necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- The essential functions of this position are performed indoors as well as outdoors.
- During a typical workday incumbent will:
- Perform functions that will necessitate him/ her to have a strong overall level of strength and physical ability
- Be expected to exert an extensive and frequent level of talking seeing hearing walking and swimming
- Be expected to exert a moderate level of standing sitting walking swimming lifting carrying pushing/ pulling bending climbing and kneeling
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Child Development Early Childhood Education Elementary Education Child Guidance Human Services Physical Education Recreation Child Psychology the Arts Social Work Sociology or related field preferred
- At least 2-4 years of experience working with school-age children project based curriculum planning and/or special education
- Ability to set clear limits and supervise school age students
- Experience in working with diverse learners and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
Terms of Employment:
- Work Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm
Salary: $22.00 per hour
